pdf995 and embedded fonts

  • Follow

I recently installed pdf995 in order to save documents to PDF format using
Corel Wordperfect 8.

I keep reading that I should use embedded fonts when saving a file using the
pdf995 printer driver in order to make sure that the document remains the
same when read by someone else, but I have searched and searched -- as yet I
have found no instructions as to how to embed fonts using this driver. The
description states that the program has "configurable font embedding", but
so far I have found no instructions as to how access this feature or use it.
Everything I read seems to assume that one already knows how to do this, and
never gives any instructions as to how to do it.

The "readme" files states:

=====
The preferred and default setting for pdf995 uses font substitution.
However, you may also embed fonts with pdf995. The Fonts dialog details the
steps involved.
PDF Level 1.3 - This is the default setting and generates accurate but
larger PDF files. When unchecked, Pdf995 will use font substitution to
generate smaller PDF files.
=====

How does one get to the "Fonts dialog"?

When I view the document properties/fonts of Acrobat reader, the fonts are
listed with "embedded subset" under the column for "actual font". Does this
mean that the fonts are already embedded in the document? Does this assure
that the pdf document will appear and print with the typefaces I originally
used in the document?

Can anyone help with this?

Ranny

This will I believe act as all print drivers do - indeed our own too
(PDF-XChange) and will be a Printer preference setting (control panel,
Printers, Printer pref's)

You could always try ours which acts this way and offers highly compressed
files too !

Open the printers dialog: Start->Settings->Printers. From there
right-click on the PDF995 printer and choose properties. From there
go to the device settings tab. You'll find the font settings in
there.

I can get this far -- but then what? How do I set it to embed the fonts in
the pdf file?

Thanks.

I can get to the device settings tab, and I see a "Font Substitution Table",
but have no idea what I am looking at there. I don't see anything about
embedded fonts. What do I do there?

This is what I see:

Avialble Postcript Memory: 9758 KB
Output Protocol: ASCII
Send CTRL-D Before Each Job: No
Send CTRL-D After Each Job: Yes
Convert Gray Text to Postscript Gray: No
Convert Gray Graphics to Postscript Gray: No
Add Euro Currency Symbol to PostScript Fonts: Yes
Job Timeout: 0 seconds
Wait Timeout: 300 seconds
Mininum Font Size to Download as Outline: 100 pixel(s)
Maximum Font Size to Download as Bitmap: 600 pixel(s)

Thanks.

Hi Randy,

I am only guessing with PDF995 - with PDF-XChange it is available from the
Printer preferences as with any other printer settings

Sorry !
