ahem, to be more specific: i have a set of old slides, many slides,
fine-tuned slides, made with prosper slides --- is it possible to
modify prosper's options to obtain an handout ASAP?

use the powerdot class, it is the successor of prosper.
And powerdot knows the handout option.

While it sounds like the powerdot class might be the solution you
need, I myself was looking at doing handouts with this Beamer Lecture
set that I found:

it depends on what you threat as a handout. What would be the main
differences you would like between the slides and the resulting
handout?

each slide is composed by a number of pdf pages, that are
progressively displayed in a presentation
in a printed copy, handout thau is, i think that it is better to print
only the last pdf page that is shown in the presentation of a single
slide and save trees

this look interesting for new slides to use in teaching, i was already
determined to switch to beamer and your link points to an intriguing
solution... that said, i had a set of many old slides done with
prosper, to be used yesterday, and my solution was
1. open the pdf file using ghostview
2. mark all and only the last page in each slide set
3. print the marked page
4. creatively using a xerox...
thank you everybody for all your help, ciao
