Lowercase numerals in Palatino

Previously, I was working with MikTeX distribution (less than a year
old), and had the Palatino font installed. When I loaded Palatino,
lowercase numerals were used automatically. After a hard drive crash,
I had to reinstall MikTeX, and I don't think that I've done anything
differently. But, now when I load Palatino, I get uppercase numerals.
I'm at a loss because I wasn't trying to do anything special. Does
anyone know what's happened? Code is below.

Thanks,
Adam

text + text
What is "text + text" supposed to do right now? It doesn't seem very useful to me. What about making "text + text" as an equivalent for "text || text"? Most strongly-typed programming languages do this. Hello all, Is there any way makes me prevent the user from entering characters in a Text object I want the Textbox to accept only numeric values when writting into it. Thanks Regards, lightzizo wrote: > Is there any way makes me prevent the user from entering characters in > a Text object 1. There is no Text object. setting TeX text variable depending on keyval-generated param? (low-level TeX question)
I am using keyval to set a "scaled" parameter and am having trouble getting the right behavior, which is: If I \usepackage{package} with no [scaled] option, I want to set a variable to a compile-time-specified default, say "s*[a.b]". If I \usepackage[scaled]{package}, same thing. And if I \usepackage[scaled=x.y], I want to set the variable to "s*[x.y]". (This is for font scaling, and I've used as my model the Helvetica scaled parameter.) The variable name (for the purposes of this conversation) is pnm@scaled. What I have that's not working correctly is: \expandafter\ifx\csname pmn@scaled\endcsname\relax \let\pmn@scaled\@empty \else \edef\pmn@scaled{s*[1.2]}% \fi I think what this says is "if pnm@scaled is not defined (case 1), leave it empty, otherwise set it to "s[1.2]". But the else clause is not working correctly, and I don't know how to differentiate between "defined by keyval but with no value" and "defined by keyval but with a value". Also I'm pretty sure I don't really know the difference between \let and \edef. Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks. text variable to numeric
Hi. I've just created a text variable which looks like a date variable by disaggregating the following and reassembling it: date year month day 29/04/2009 2009 4 29 the trouble is the 'date' is not in a date format but a text format. i've tried these two options format date2 ddmmyyyy8.; length date2 ddmmyyyy8.; but none of them works. Any suggestions? Thanks Hello Bufino, You can try - data test; set test; format date2 ddmmyy8.; date2 =3D input(date, ddmmyy10.); run; Regards, Shuchi On Jul 30, 9:00=A0pm, bufino <qots...@hotmail.co.uk> wrote: > Hi. > I&#...

BUG Numeric with text
When you set the display format of a fractional numeric to e.g. "%#_g Mhz", it becomes impossible to change it's value with the keyboard! In LV 7.1, you can give the numeric key focus, and if the cursor is at the numeric part, you can use arrow up and arrow down to increate or decrease it's value. In 8.2 and 8.5.1, the value turns to NaN when pressing the up or down arrow. If you set a range, the value becomes the upper range value, even if you press the down arrow. This behavior doesn't occur when you set the display format to "%#_gMhz", without the space......

How to do lowercase numerals in LaTeX?
Hello, Not sure if terminology is correct, as Google, the UKTeXFAQ and CTAN did not come up with any hits: some websites and books on typography point out that using non-aligned or lower-case numerals in text looks better than the baseline-aligned text which is always used in mathematical environments. So, for example, addresses and phone numbers in the text could be written in these lower-case numerals. However, I can't find any reference to such numerals in standard LaTeX. Is the use of such numerals frowned upon? What would one need to search for to find a suitable package on CTAN? I'm guessing European typesetting makes use of such numerals even if the US does not. assigning a numeric code to text
What is the simplest way to assign a numeric code to text? For example, suppose I have a 10x1 vector (that is actually a cell array) as follows: Alabama Alabama Alaska Colorado Kentucky Kentucky Kentucky Maine Maine Maine As you can see they are in alphabetical order, but I sometimes have a different number of observations for each state. How would I assign a code to each so that I get a 10x1 vector which reads: 1 1 2 3 4 4 4 5 5 5 I have a large data set with many states (I am actually not dealing with states, but I thought this would be easiest for my example here), so is there a genera...

Re: text variable to numeric
note that you cannot change the content or type of a variable with a FORMAT. That only changes that what you see. To change a type you must convert it like below (don't use the same variable-name!). After doing that, you can use any date-format to change the "look and feel", without changing that what's "behind" it. Auto Text to Numeric Conversion?
Is there a simple way to scan all variables for numeric variables stored as text and convert them to either an appropriate integer or numeric decimal values? Filter a text field for only numerics
Is there a way to filter a string field (nvarchar) for only the numerics. Example, I have a column that users use to enter phone numbers. Sometimes they enter 555-1212, sometimes 5551212, sometimes 555 1212, sometimes (001)555-1212. (Unfortunately that was the client's requirement to be able to enter numbers that way. There are no alphas, but spaces, hyphens and () are permitted.)
