LuaTeX (LuaLaTeX) crashing (MAc OS X 10.6.6)

Hello all,

I seem to be having Lua(La)TeX issues with the graphicx package at the
moment. The basic example

  \documentclass{article}
  \usepackage{graphicx}
  \begin{document}
  \end{document}

is crashing on my system - I see:

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.60.2-2010071217 (TeX Live 2010) (rev 3736)

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Ah, I'd not linked that bug (which I'd seen mentioned) with this
behaviour: thanks.

Update pdftexcmds. The new pdftexcmds disables \pdf@shellescape
for LuaTeX < 0.68 to avoid triggering a bug of os.execute() in LuaTeX.

graphicx.sty -> graphics.cfg -> epstopdf-base.sty -> pdftexcmds.sty ->
\pdf@shellescape -> os.execute()

This avoids triggering the bug in the example.

This uses the form of os.execute() that is not affected by the bug.

Are Mac OS X 10.5.8's iLife programs safe to use in Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x?
Hi. Someone told me that Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x do not come with iLife like the older Mac OS X versions (e.g., 10.5.x). I did not know this! Since my client uses iPhoto that came preinstalled on his old 2008 MacBook Pro's Mac OS X 10.5.x (10.5.8 right now), can he use the old one from 10.5.8? Or will he need a third party replacement (needs to import/copy the old image files) or buy a new iPhoto version for his photo(graph)s? I recalled he did not like iPhoto and wonder if the new one is any better. Mac Security: Firmware Updates In Mac OS X 10.4.6
Apple have released two articles regarding an update to the firmware in BOTH EFI using Macs (Macintels) AND OpenFirmware using Macs (PPCs). These firmware updates are part of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update. They result in the following: - EFI Macs will boot a second time after the 10.4.6 update is installed. - OF Macs will boot a second AND third time after the 10.4.5 update is installed. So, when you get these extra reboots, don't worry. You are not on Windows. These are just firmware updates. Why the updates? To provide better security when using firmware passwords. Here are the two relevant announcements. - The first is the AppleCare article. It is extremely and unnecessarily vague. If this is all we had to read we would be very confused. Thankfully I have been provided with further information: - The second was sent out to Apple's security mail list. It provides a complete explanation. ============================= 1) <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303567> About the security content of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update This document describes the security content of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update, which can be downloaded and installed via Software Update preferences, or from Apple Downloads. They do not contain content. My recipients report this. Furthermore, if I drag and drop a file to an email message, and then drag that attachment from the email to the desktop or another folder, that file will not open, even though the original file does open. By the way, Apple have removed the Command-Shift-Delete shortcut that previously deleted the mail trash. Has anyone experienced these same problems with mail attachments after installing OS X 10.8.5? Compiling plan9port under Mac OS X 10.6
Has anyone had success with compiling plan9port under Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)? I've submitted an issue report at http://code.swtch.com/plan9port/issue/27/compiling-under-snow-leopard that provides the error messages I received. I then tried adding CC9=gcc -m32 to a $PLAN9/LOCAL.config file, but when running ./install I ended up with a variety of the following errors: >>> /Users/--/plan9/config: line 1: -m32: command not found Does anyone have any suggestions? Tk on Windows and Mac OS X 10.6
Is it possible to install Ruby Tk bindings on Windows with RubyInstaller, and on Mac OS X 10.6, without recompiling Ruby? I've seen a few sites that explain how to recompile Ruby on each platform to use Tk, but so far it looks like that's the only way. Time crashes on Mac OS X.3.6
I'm not sure whether anyone else has experienced this but I'm using X.3.6 on a Powerbook G4 1ghz and every so often, like every two days or so (sometimes much less), the time in the menu bar at the top of the system will freeze. In fact, the entire menu bar seems to freeze. I thought this was just a problem with X.3.5 but it persisted into the newest version. -- Andre Matuch ...
