I presume you are trying to make a report cover, rather than a
title page, which occurs inside the book. It is silly, but
LaTeX has no facility for making a cover, so people must misuse
the title page.

\usepackage{calc}
....

\noindent\nobreak \hspace{-\oddsidemargin}\hspace{\evensidemargin}%
\begin{minipage}{\textwidth+\oddsidemargin-\evensidemargin}
<cover formatting here ... or just \maketitle>
\end{minipage}

On fr.comp.text.tex you will find people who speak french better
than I do.

\noindent\nobreak \hspace{-\oddsidemargin}\hspace{\evensidemargin}%
\begin{minipage}{\textwidth+\oddsidemargin-\evensidemargin}
<formatage de couverture ici... ou \maketitle juste>
\end{minipage}

De-bunking the "evil" of "the race to the bottom"
<quote> Is Engadget really that stupid? Or just corrupt? Or trolling us all? Here is another "race to the bottom is bad" article, this time in the form of an "editorial" from Engadget. It's even more idiotic than usual. The whole "race to the bottom" concept is odd to me: people complaining about how technology gets less outrageously expensive, and more available to everybody, and more commoditized. Like that would be a bad thing? So the whole argument is fundamentally flawed to begin with - any time I see some pundit or CEO complaining about how the competition is making things cheaper, I go "Uhhuh, crybaby". But when it comes to cellphones, it's not just a flawed argument, it's doubly stupid. Because in that market, particularly in the US, the alternative is the whole broken carrier subsidy model, with all that entails. None of which is good, and all of which is much worse than any (hypothetical) "race to the bottom" arguments. And at no point did that deeply flawed editorial even mention carrier lock- in issues. What crock. I have many reasons to like the google nexus phones: I just think that the plain android experience is generally cleaner than most of the skinned ones, and even when there is superior hardware (Samsung Galaxy SIII) I tend to prefer the Nexus model (honesty in advertizing: I've gotten free phones from both google and Samsung, but I actu...

why "::", not "."
Why does the method of modules use a dot, and the constants a double colon? e.g. Math::PI and Math.cos -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. On Oct 26, 2010, at 01:48 , Oleg Igor wrote: > Why does the method of modules use a dot, and the constants a double > colon? > e.g. > Math::PI and Math.cos For the same reason why inner-classes/modules use double colon, because = they're constants and that's how you look up via constant namespace. Math::PI and ActiveRecord::Base are the same type of lookup... it is = just that Base is a module and PI is a float....

"my" and "our"
Hi, while testing a program, I erroneously declared the same variable twice within a block, the first time with "my", the second time with "our": { my $fz = 'VTX_Link'; .... ( around 200 lines of code, all in the same block) our$fz = 'VTX_Linkset'; ... } So the initial contents of the $fz declared with "my" is lost, because "our" creates a lexical alias for the global$fz, thus overwriting the previous "my" declaration. It was my error, no question. But I wonder why Perl doesn't mention this - even with "use s...

"out" and "in out"
Hi i found the following explaination: In Ada, "in" parameters are similar to C++ const parameters. They are effectively read-only within the scope of the called subprogram. Ada "in out" parameters have a reliable initial value (that passed in from the calling subprogram) and may be modified within the scope of the called procedure. Ada "out" parameters have no reliable initial value, but are expected to be assigned a value within the called procedure. What does "have no reliable initial value" mean when considering the "out" parameter? By c...

What does "obsoleted" mean WRT text widget "-pickplace" option?
The docs for the text widget yview command says that "the -pickplace option has been obsoleted by the see widget command". Does this mean that the "-pickplace" option will some day go away, or just that it is less relevant than it used to be? I want my code to be able to say "move this line to the top of the widget" which is what the -pickplace option promises to do, but I don't want to rely on a feature that may go away in a future release.
