Pantone colors with pdflatex and xcolor?

Is this even possible?

The printing house, who is going to print a book I've helped typeset,
can apparently only handle Pantone colors. At the moment I'm using rgb

So what are my options in this case?

You should probably be using CMYK definitions if you are setting for
print. Pantone provides CMYK settings for its colours, but you have to
buy the swatch (expensive).

There is also this one for named colors :

Yes ? And this one is nice too:

http://www.spudart.org/blogs/randomthoughts_comments/3523_0_3_0_C/

since it defines some named colors (easier to memorize/use/read in the
source) However I didn't test them and i'm not sure of the result in a
pdf. But it could be a starting point to add a "pantone" option to
xcolor... may be underground (i heard Pantone colors to be "protected",
even if such "protection" sounds not legal in Europe...)

From the palette, would it be possible to set up a function that give
the correspondance between cmyk and PMS (Pantone Matching System) ?

Not so easy at first glance...

However, it could be quite easy to extract the CMYK values from the HTML
file in order to provide a PMS option for xcolor in about one hour for
a waked guy ;-)

i don't believe such a thing exists; pantone predates the days when
things were done digitally, i suspect (and see my comment about tuning).

but again, it's necessarily a single-destination table.

why normal text color changes to CMYK when any color applied on some part of text
Dear All, This seems to be a bug of LaTeX or DVIPS that it changes the normal text color from Gray to CMYK when any color applied on some part of text even when we have properly kept the colored text in grouping. It happens after the instance of color text, thus before the first occurence of color text portion, normal text comes as Gray but after that it comes as CMYK. For testing here I have attached the small sample tex file. ------------------------------------------------------------ \documentclass{article} \begin{document} This is normal. \begingroup{\special{color push rgb 0 0 1}Thi...

Printing colored text on a colored background
I am trying to print a document that has some orange writing and imagery on a purple background. How do I set the document to have the orange objects and text appear as their true color (like on a plain white background) as opposed to looking like it is blending with the purple when I go to print? I know this is not called trapping, but I was told that a thin white background appears on the objects when this is done? Thank you!
