What is the easiest way to align successive mathematical steps after an "equals" sign in LaTex?
Hello,
What is the easiest way to align successive mathematical steps after
an "equals" sign in LaTex?
For example, I would like to typeset something like the following:
32 = 1 x 32
= 2 x 16
= 4 x 8
How can this be accomplished with the equal signs aligned (going down
the page)?
Thank you,
Ray L.

The align environment from amsmath.
For a good guide that answers most of these kinds of questions, take a
look at Herb Voss' mathmode documentation. (In addition the the amsmath
documentation itself). (Both are included as part of TeXLive and MikTeX).
