Hello group,

I'm working on some changes in the XWatch [1] program (a log file 
watcher for X).

Before I start to implement features other programs might already have, 
can you tell me what open-source graphical log watcher tools you know 
of? 
I'm not looking for `xterm -e 'tail -f /var/log/messages'` solutions or 
other programs that run in a terminal emulator under X.

Hello Rob,
There is a SystemWatch product by a company called OpenService, Inc.
(www.open.com). You can watch numerous log files from numerous Servers,
including security log files from firewalls, in addition to system log
messages, and even can be easily set up to monitor application log files,
x-log files, or any other logfile you may have, and with detected conditions
in such log files, can generate alerts and/or alarms based on status, and
even take pre-programmed actions against these conditions.

It's not open source - but a pretty damn good product for watching logfiles,
and taking a proactive stance on knowing what's happening as it happens, as
compared to finding out about it well after the fact, and after the cattle
have already left the barn and barnyard.
