presently the server vfstab is as follows:
/dev/md/dsk/d5 /dev/md/rdsk/d5 /backup ufs 2 yes -
I wanted to change the file system to NFS in the vfstab can I just
change it and then
bounce
/etc/rc2.d/K28nfs.server

No. NFS is for *other* hosts not the one the data resides on.
Start with the man pages for share.
