About print file to AIX4.3.3 from remote client. (windows or as400)

Hi,
Are there anyone can help me to solve this problem?
There are some problem occur when I test the print function at
AIX4.3.3.

1. The AIX 4.3.3 will be the printer server.
2. The print client are windwos2000 and AS400.

I create a printer queue with backend program.
The /etc/qconfig config are as following :
--------------------------------------------------------
p2f:
        device = p2fdev
        up = TRUE
p2fdev:
        backend = /usr/lib/lpd/p2fbe /report/queue
---------------------------------------------------------

After I created the print queue and device, I test it ok with 'qprt
-Pp2f filename'.
The backend program will process the print file and move it to
/report/queue

Then I add the windows IP to Remote Clients with Print Acces and
submit 'lpr -S 172.25.214.70 -P as400t I_pvcs_.txt' at windows2000
command-line then print the data to AIX.
But p2f print queue can't not work, I find the data are hold at
/var/spool/lpd/*
I think that can't trigger backend program.

I have two R6 machine with AIX 4.3.3. One machine test this process it
OK.
But other one is fail, I can't find any error at fail one.

Are there anyone can tell me what happened.

Thanks,
Jeff CF

Does the user "lpd" have permission to execute the backend? Try putting an
"echo I get here" type of message in the backend. Is it ever executed when
the remote job is queued from the client? It could be that the client is
passing along some flags with the print job that aren't recognized or
handled by the backend as expected.

Best regards,
Paul

Hi,

The the backend program persmission is as following:
-r-xr-sr-x 1 root printq 245789 9月 29 13:41 p2fbe

I do some test with lpd id and find some error.
When I type qprt command, the error appear as following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[lpd@rms-t]/etc # qprt
enq: (FATAL ERROR): Cannot open /etc/qconfig.bin for reading.
enq: errno = 13: Permission denied

[lpd@rms-t]/etc # ls -al qc*
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root printq 1824 11月 05 14:03 qconfig
-rw-rw---- 1 root printq 2174 11月 07 09:28 qconfig.bin

---------------------------------------------------------------------

How to config correct permission with lpd?

Thank very much.

Could be permissions on /usr/sbin/lpd executable? Or permissions the
directory itself. If you log in and just "su - lpd" and try to run p2fbe
directly - does that work?

Did you delete and the lpd user and create it again? Make sure the lpd user
is part of the printq group. Otherwise the lpd user will never be able to
read the qconfig.bin file the way the permissions are set now.

Moving/Migrating /etc files from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.3.0
We are migrating our administrative system from an F50 running AIX 4.3.3 to a p5-550 running AIX 5.3.0. When comparing the base 'passwd', 'group', etc., I've noticed that the AIX 5.3.0 base files for 'passwd', 'group', etc. files have ids which are assigned to different users than the ids on the 4.3.3 machine. What is the proper method to 'migrate' the 'passwd', 'group', etc. from 4.3.3 to 5.3.0? For example: Should I leave the ids alone on the 5.3 'passwd', 'group', etc, and somehow assign new ids to the conflicting ids? Is there an better method to combine the 4.3.3 files with the 5.3.0 files? Any other methods available? vt100 terminfo works differently at AIX 5.3 than AIX 4.3.3
AIX'ers, I'm running AIX 5.3 on a P5-550 machine and AIX 4.3.3 on an F50. For some reason any PC software running the vt100 terminal emulation handles the BACKSPACE and DELETE keys differently at AIX 5.3 than AIX 4.3.3. At AIX 4.3.3 the backspace erases the character completely from the screen as the cursor moves backwards. At AIX 5.3 the backspace moves the cursor back but leaves the character. Note: the character is actually erases but still shows. At AIX 4.3.3 the delete key erases all characters back to the AIX prompt. At AIX 5.3 the delete key shows the character "=A7" and does not clear the characters back to the prompt. Note: The line is actually deleted/cleared even though the cursor doesn't move back to the AIX prompt. Does anyone have a good source file (i.e. dec.ti file) that works like the AIX 4.3.3 vt100-am at AIX 5.3 that I could try to use? Secure deletion of files (AIX 4.3.3)
Hi, I have a machine running AIX 4.3.3 which needs to be returned to the company we hired it from. Problem is that we have sensitive information on the disks and hence need to clean them. I'm a little more practiced with Solaris and Linux than AIX, so I went straight for GNU Wipe - Which fails to compile and looking at questions other posed AIX 4.3.3 doesn't have have /dev/*random to see the process. I also tried fwipe, but it can't handle files of this size. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Writing files over 2GB on AIX 4.3.3
System Details: O/S: AIX 4.3.3 ML9 RDBMS: Informix IDS 7.31 UC3 We have a routine that is trying to unload an Informix database and store it to a file system, then back up that file to tape. The database has reached 2GB in size, and so we have now run into what we believe is an AIX limitation. Here are some things we have addressed so far: 1) The file system was not large-file enabled. We recreated it. lsjfs now shows "Bf=true". #MountPoint:Device:Vfs:Nodename:Type:Size:Options:AutoMount:Acct:OtherOptions:LvSize:FsSize:FragSize:Nbpi:Compress:Bf:AgSize: /cmunload:/dev/cmunloadlv:jfs:::6291456:rw:yes:no::6291456:6291456:4096:4096:no:true:64: 2) Verified the soft and hard filesize limits on root, informix, and default. fsize is unlimited and the hard filesize is not set so should be same as fsize based on the /etc/security/limits file comment lines. default: fsize = -1 core = 2097151 cpu = -1 data = 262144 rss = 65536 stack = 65536 nofiles = 3500 root: informix: 3) We realized that the cpio command we would use will also run into problems when we write to tape, so our script has been changed to use the "backup" command. 4) Verified our Informix onunload command is set to limit the size of the backup to 30GB, and not 2GB. onunload -t /cmunload/database.unl -b 16 -s 30000000000 cmdb1 RESULTS: We are not even getting to the point of writing to tape. lex problem migrating from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.3 (NCH was 256 is 4096)
I am migrating a large application from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.3 and have hit a problem with lex. In AIX 4.3.3 lex compiles many files sucessfully, but in AIX 5.3 it does not. The problem is that the number of transitions has increased markedly for the same lex source file. this seems to be caused by the "#define NCH 4096" on line 6 of the generated C file. (The value was 256 under AIX 4.3.3.) There is a corresponding increase in generated tables in the C file (with 4096 lines of table data as opposed to 256 previously). If I run AIX 5.3 lex against my lex source file I get the following message: Error: 1285-311 There are too many transitions. I can fix this by changing the source line "%a 30000" to "%a 300000" but then I get Error: 1285-343 There is an output table overflow. so I would also have to change "%o 30000" to "%o 300000". This results in dramatically larger C files and may have a performance impact on the final object also. I'd really like lex to use the previous table sizes but can see no way of instructing AIX 5.3 lex to do this. Sure, I can copy AIX 4.3.3 lex to 5.3 but that defeats the purpose of upgrading to a supported level of AIX. Any ideas or explanations? (BTW, I haven't posted for a while and found it hard to find a free, anonymous, posting-capable newsgroup server that actually posts messages outside its own domain. news.cheap56k.com is the server that this came from. Because 4.3.3 contains updates/features/fixes that don't exist in 4.3.2, and the driver requires them. I.e. that OS level is a requisite; your current level doesn't meet that requisite. Also keep in mind that AIX dev deals with parallel releases; updates often happen to more than one release simultaneously. AIX releases are not serialized. restoring Print Queues on AIX 4.3.3 box
My qconfig file got corrupted yesterday and had to restore it from tape. In doing so I lost some printers that I had added to the system since last restore. When I try and add them back into the system using SMIT it tells me the printers already exist. When I look into the /var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/dev, ../ddi, ../smit, ../custom directories the printers are listed there but not in the qconfig file itself. Is there any way I can just remove these from the directories and not cause any issues or get the system to think that these are not there? Via serial console, you need to go into the service processor (SvP) menu on the first serial port, I believe. You can only access the SvP menu when the machine is powered down ('shutdown -Fh now' if it's running AIX) and then press the enter key a few times to get the SvP's attention on the serial console. Then you can configure a reset string, which should be a long sentence of nonsense letters, characters, and numbers, and also of mixed case. Choose it well, because the SvP will not be able to tell the difference between your commands, output, or text files output on the screen, so if you use a reset string with words in it, it increases the risk of an inadvertent power cycle when using the serial console. So make sure it's a long string with nonsense letters, numbers, capitalization and punctuation. A reset string of perhaps at least 20 characters is good. Note: write down this string, and make sur...
