Will AIX 4330-11 ML update an AIX 4.3.1.0 installation to 4.3.3 ML 11?
Hi All, Would like to bring my 4.2.1 system to 4.3.3 prior to doing an alt_disk_install for 5L version 5.1. However, what I have is the 4.3.1 install CDs. Once I update/migrate to 4.3.1, will applying the AIX 4300-11 maintenance package update the system to the latest AIX 4.3.3 level? Thanks, Mark I don't know for sure, but almost certainly not. I think you need kosher 4.3.3 CDs. Iain http://www.axiomtech.co.uk On 1 Aug 2005 06:00:46 -0700, iain@cairnlin.co.uk wrote: >I don't know for sure, but almost certainly not. Firefox 1.5.0.4 on AIX 4.3.3 available
the builds of Firefox 1.5.0.4 are available for Common, PowerPC 604, PowerPC 601 and POWER target machines. "http://www.linkitup.de/ForAIX/Firefox" Should work on AIX 5 too, but not tested. Build exactly the same way as the previous release which did fine on AIX 5.1 ML9. And Mozilla 1.7.13 "http://www.linkitup.de/ForAIX/Mozilla" I have target CPU optimizied build of Mozilla for PPC601 and POWER too, but only limited webspace. Feel free to ask if you're interested in a little more speed for your ancient machine. -- Uli Link Hi! If you are still looking for people to mirror this, I'll be updating mine shortly. I think I missed your compliation of the FF 1.5 release entirely because I was so busy. If there's something you need to have hosted, let me know. William ...

Moving/Migrating /etc files from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.3.0
We are migrating our administrative system from an F50 running AIX 4.3.3 to a p5-550 running AIX 5.3.0. When comparing the base 'passwd', 'group', etc., I've noticed that the AIX 5.3.0 base files for 'passwd', 'group', etc. files have ids which are assigned to different users than the ids on the 4.3.3 machine. What is the proper method to 'migrate' the 'passwd', 'group', etc. from 4.3.3 to 5.3.0? For example: Should I leave the ids alone on the 5.3 'passwd', 'group', etc, and somehow assign new ids to the conflicting ids? Is there an better method to combine the 4.3.3 files with the 5.3.0 files? Any other methods available? What is the difference between Java JRE 5.x and 6.x (1.5.x / 1.6.x) ???
What exactly is the difference between the JRE 5.x and 6.x (or 1.5.x and 1.6.x) versions of the Sun Java Runtime Engine for windows? Why does Sun maintain 2 different versions or streams or forks of the JRE? Is it true that version 5 was supposed to have an EOL this past October - or was it always EOL in October 2009? How would my "internet browsing experience" be different if my system had the latest update of version 5 versus version 6? Is it true that version 6 is somehow optimized or faster than 5? sm5w2@yahoo.com wrote: > What exactly is the difference between the JRE 5....

Dear subscribers I've tried to get Tomcat 4.1.x or 5.x to work on my FreeBSD 5.3 server, unfortunately without success so far. The problem seems to be with the Tomcat's bootstrap code. vt100 terminfo works differently at AIX 5.3 than AIX 4.3.3
AIX'ers, I'm running AIX 5.3 on a P5-550 machine and AIX 4.3.3 on an F50. For some reason any PC software running the vt100 terminal emulation handles the BACKSPACE and DELETE keys differently at AIX 5.3 than AIX 4.3.3. At AIX 4.3.3 the backspace erases the character completely from the screen as the cursor moves backwards. At AIX 5.3 the backspace moves the cursor back but leaves the character. Note: the character is actually erases but still shows. At AIX 4.3.3 the delete key erases all characters back to the AIX prompt. At AIX 5.3 the delete key shows the character "=A7" and does not clear the characters back to the prompt. Note: The line is actually deleted/cleared even though the cursor doesn't move back to the AIX prompt. Does anyone have a good source file (i.e. dec.ti file) that works like the AIX 4.3.3 vt100-am at AIX 5.3 that I could try to use? suppose I have an equation x^2+x+y^2+3*y=5*y^2+3*y+3*x*y+5 and I want to find the set of (x,y) that satisfy the equation.
Question How can i do that? I've been trying, solve, explot and subs. I can get the graph, but i cannot get the (x,y) pairs that I want. When I use function solve to solve the equation in term of x or y and then substitute the numeric value for one of them to find the other, I got the problem about complex numer. This might be because that numeric value that I substitute is not the number that satisfy the equation, so the program give me the result in complex number. Background. I need to use the pairs to find the optimal value of my objective function. I tried to use the fminco...

Updating PHP 4.2.x to 4.3.x
I have RH9 and it has PHP 4.2.2 as the latest RPM. Since PHP, Apache, and PostgreSQL are all hard to compile and get talking together, I prefer sticking with the RPM angle of installation through RH's Add/Remove Applications control panel. I noticed that RHN (Red Hat Network) online website has a channel I can access to download RPMs. It provides a whole range of RPMs, including ones for Severn Beta 2. As you know, Severn Beta 2 was what RH10 was going to be before RH forked the code into Fedora (a.k.a., "Bug Hat") and RHEL 3. Anyway, when I went looking through the Severn RPMs, I noticed that the PHP versions were 4.3.x! I started to wonder, can I install a Severn RPM for PHP 4.3.x on to RH9? If so, what about Severn's Apache and PostgreSQL? Does this have other implications and problems if it even permits installation at all? So, if you have free time and a spare crash-and-test box, I would appreciate it if one could test this theory out. Unfortunately, I'm mired in a tape backup nightmare right now and I'm spending my lunch hour here, daydreaming "what if" scenarios... Thanks. ...
