Hi, All: My perl code need to connect to a database (MySQL) in remote server, and I can login that server via SSH. I am a new to perl, can anyone give me a hint how can I do that. Many thanks. Xiaoyu zhangxiaoyu912@gmail.com wrote: > My perl code need to connect to a database (MySQL) in remote server, > and I can login that server via SSH. You don't need to have ssh access to the remote database server in order to be able to connect to the database (at least if the database server is configured to wait for remote connections). > I am a new to perl, can anyone give me a hint h...

Username of a user connecting to a database via an application server
We have a J2EE application and we use Orion application server to connect to the database. All these connections to the database are made as a single user. Now it becomes difficult to find out what is the SID of a particular user because everyone connects as the same user. It becomes difficult to identify which user is doing what. Is there a way to overcome this. Thanks. picksdba wrote: > We have a J2EE application and we use Orion application server to > connect to the database. See the dbs_application_info package. It is designed to allow the front-end program to post information on itself to the v$session dynamic performance view. How to configure application server to connect to a two-node oracle RAC database
We have a java based application which will access the two node RAC database via the Orion Application Server. What should be done so that the Orion Application Server uses both the nodes to make connections? Right now the orion application server accesses the RAC database via the jdbc thin client where you have to specify the ip address of the database server and the listerner port and the instance name. If I do it this way then the application server just connects to the particular instance that I give it. Thanks Can you use the OCI driver? Regards, Steve I can use the OCI driver if it serves the purpose. Could you elaborate a bit more on how to configure it and where to do it? Thanks, Utpal The OCI driver uses the Oracle network configuration file (tnsnames.ora) on the client (application server, in this case) for connectivity definitions. This is where you can configure load balancing and failover options. An example is below... YOUR_DB_NAME = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vip-node1)(PORT = 2484)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vip-node2)(PORT = 2484)) (LOAD_BALANCE = yes) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = your_service_name) (FAILOVER_MODE = (TYPE = SELECT) (METHOD = BASIC) (RETRIES = 90) (DELAY = 5) ) ) ) Read up on the docs at tahiti.oracle.com, as they go into great detail as to the different configuration options. Using the DBI to connect to an Oracle server w/o connecting to a database
I've searched for the answer to this problem and have not seen it (which suggests what the answer might be ;-) ). Is it possible to use DBI (and DBD::Oracle) to connect to an Oracle server without connecting to a database? This would be the DBI equivalent of: sqlplus /nolog SQL> connect user/passwd@database; or, more similarly: sqlplus /nolog @my.sql where my.sql might be: connect user/passwd@database; select ... etc. I'm thinking this is not possible, but I hope it is. Thanks. Quoth Tim <google@hoodfamily.org>: > I've searched for the answer to this problem and...

I believe the usual approach is to leave the connection open, to avoid the overhead associated with opening and closing the connection again and again. This is one reason for using connection pooling, for example. You might want to post in a forum for your client library (eg ADO, JDBC) or development environment (eg ASP, PHP) to see if there are any specific considerations for your application. Using one single-application connection vs. one connection for every operation to SQL-Server via ADO.NET
Dear members, I'am thinking about the "best" way to connect to my sql-server via ADO.Net (if there is a best way). My application uses the sql-server very intensively. At the moment every database-operation opens a connection, executes and then closes the connection. Another way would be to use only a single connection to the database, which is opened when the application starts. What do you think is the better way to get a high performing sql server: using one single application connection vs. using one connection for every operation? Cheers, Sebastian since ADO.net already does the connection pooling for you, as long as you are using the SQL connection object (and not the more generic oledb connection object), you are best off doing what you are doing. -- --- Nick Malik [Microsoft] MCSD, CFPS, Certified Scrummaster http://blogs.msdn.com/nickmalik Disclaimer: Opinions expressed in this forum are my own, and not representative of my employer. Connection to a database on an external server
Hi, I have my own database on a server and the same database on local. I want to copy all my database from the main server to my local host (I execute this code from my PC and not my main server) $id_link_ref = mysql_connect('localhost','database_name','password'); $id_link_local = mysql_connect('localhost','root','password'); it doesn't work :( Why ? What is the problem ? ..oO(Tschu) >I have my own database on a server and the same database on local. >I want to copy all my database from the main server to my local host >(I execute this code from my PC and not my main server) > >$id_link_ref = mysql_connect('localhost','database_name','password'); >$id_link_local = mysql_connect('localhost','root','password'); > >it doesn't work :( "Doesn't work" is not really an error description. But your code above contains several obvious problems: * The parameters in the first call are wrong. The first parameter is the server name or address, which should obviously not be 'localhost' if you want to connect to an external server. * Running your local database as 'root' is a really bad idea. You should consider to create a normal user account with restricted permissions for the daily work. Use 'root' only for maintenance purposes. * After all connecting to an external database server is often not possible at all for...
