Power 720 installation woes

  • Follow

hello group,

I have this shiny new Power720 which is driving me nuts.
I want to install AIX, but for the first time
I have neither a grapics card inside nor do
I have a functional serial terminal (it doesn't like my converter cable).
Docs say it should be possible via the ASMI to get at least into
the SMS Menu.
ASMI seems to work so far, at least I can power cycle the box,
however, the progress indicator always stucks at AA00E1B0
which indicates it wants to talk with me via the serial console.
How can I make it talk to me via the browser interface?
Docs say one should press "1" whenever keyboard symbol appears.
This sounds familiar, but the symbol never appears.

puzzled.

docs say: use a serial console or an hmc, asmi is nice but not enough.

and there's no other way like e.g. SOL for BladeServers?
