Scanning AIX error log for only previous 24 hours errors

Guys!!

I am try to build up a shell script which scans for permenant hardware
errors in AIX error log and mail to specific users about these errors!!

i have nearly succeded in doing so , but stuck up at one step...

See , i am using errpt -s command with current date/time of system (
and this date/time is off course is the system time at which the script
is run by cron)....

problem is that how can i insert date value of 24 hours back ( from
current system time ) with errpt -s .... as i want to scan for only
those errors which arrive in last 24 hours only....

Does somebody help me for providing any way to scan for errors in last
24 hours only..

Thanks in advance

Jones

Why don;t use the "errnotify" ODM file for this. See the below link for
more details.

Good thing with this is that , this is very much customized and the
monitoring is real time.

Are you using a shell script?

#!/bin/sh

I use this small script every night to mail the errors of the day.
It is launched by cron at 23:59 to get the date and it sleeps 70 seconds
for the last minute errors.
It runs on all my AIX. The mail whith "NONE" text is usefull even if
there are no error to report: I must receive one mail per AIX system. If
I not there is a problem on the server/workstation.

When is an error not an error?
The Java language specification claims in: 8.8.7.1 Explicit Constructor Invocations .... "If an anonymous class instance creation expression appears within an explicit constructor invocation statement, then the anonymous class may not refer to any of the enclosing instances of the class whose constructor is being invoked." Helpfully it gives an example: "For example: class Top { int x; class Dummy { Dummy(Object o) {} } class Inside extends Dummy { Inside() { super(new Object() { int r = x; }); // error } Inside(final int y) { super(new Object() { int r = y; }); // correct } } } " Notice the word 'error' in the comment. This example compiles without error and produces the correct code. In what sense is it an 'error'? It is not a compiler error, it is not a runtime error. To quote Douglas Adams "this must be some new meaning of the word 'error' with which I am unfamiliar". Any idea what's gone wrong? CORE_DUMP_FAILED in error log on AIX 5.2 ML04
Some number of AIX boxes running AIX 5.2 ML04 logs similar to listed below error in error log saying the problem with paging space running out which isn't true since system has about 8 GB of RAM and 4 GB of paging space which at the time system logs error used about 5% of PS. I could not find anything regarding error identifier or label on IBM web site or in the error identifier database. System logs it like every few minutes. Does anyone have seen it on AIX 5.2 ML04 too? AIX and DS4300 Errors
I have a P570 with 2 FC adapters, each connected to their own McData 4500 switch which is in turn connected to a controller. HBA0 --> switch 1, port 0 --> controller A HBA1 --> switch 2, port 0 --> controller B I have a couple of luns, hdisk3 and hdisk4 both about 10gig. When I assign (ownership/preferred path) the logical volumes to controller A, my system performance tanks. When you do a 'iostat 2', you will consistently see %tm_acct near or at 100% with no disk activity. When you assign the lv's to controller B, no disk issues. I looked at the switch error logs and there is nothing about errors on any of the ports, nor is there any errors on the SAN or in AIX. With that said, i have to feel that something is definitely wrong with the path to Controller A. Here's my list of physical things that can be wrong: 1. Bad HBA 2. Bad Cable between server and switch 3. Bad SFP for server in switch 4. Bad SFP for SAN in switch 5. Bad cable between switch and SAN 6. Bad SFP in SAN 7. Bad controller in SAN 8. Bad switch So far, i have replaced 2,3 and 5 with no change, things are bad on controller A path and good on controller B path. This morning I moved SAN controller A connection to a different port in the switch. I re-ran cfgmgr -v and waited (a very, very long time). The lcd screen on the P570 displayed '0538' and cfgmgr was stuck at '/ usr/lib/methods/fdarcfgrule'. After 10 minutes, it finished and i checked the error logs and f...

Intermittent Errors with AIX
Hi All!. I=B4m helping a friend. I don=B4t know AIX (Version 4) The question is: Short Time ago the domestic system fields are filled automatically with many "0" as possible. This occurs in a discontinuous manner. Sometimes the problem occurs compiling applications, only after many tries the compilation works. The error message is: cob -C nolist ftp725.cbl -uv -C rm noans85 *Accepted - VERBOSE *Accepted - NOLIST *Accepted - RM *Accepted - NOANS85 Open Fail: ftp725.cbl cob: error(s) in compilation : ftp725.cbl Others commands with errors: sort and cat (simply don=B4t work). tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
I'm getting this error when I try to tar a directly using the 'preserve permissions' option: tar -cvfp something.tar something It's a nightmare when the permissions don't get preserved for this shopping cart installation. But in this case the error seems to be fatal because the tarball is not being created. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Tar will always preserve permissions on archive creation, but on extraction the default is to let them be modified by the current umask - this is what 'p' changes, i.e. with an umask of 022, it's only relevant if you have group- or world-writable files/directories that need to stay that way (but of course it's prudent to use it in cases where you really need permissions to be preserved exactly regardless of umask). Moreover, the above commandline actually tells tar to create an archive named "p" from the files/directories "something.tar" and "something" - definitely the cause of the "something.tar" not being...

script dies yet there are no errors in error log
Does anything about this script look expensive, in terms of resources or execution time? This script dies after processing about 20 or 25 numbers, yet it leaves no errors in the error logs. This is on a server that handles a fairly demanding site. The defaults, in php.ini, have all been cranked fairly high: scripts get 180 seconds to run, and they can have as much as 256 megs of RAM. The input for this script is coming from a textarea in a form, and the input could not be more simple, just a bunch of UPC codes, one per line: 881034146533x 881034146533xx 881034146533xxx 881034146533xxxx 881034146533xxxxx 881034146533xxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 881034146533xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Given 15 such numbers, the script does fine. But given 200 such numbers, it dies after processing about 10 numbers. Supposedly, the code was written many years ago, back in 2002, and yet, supposedly, the problem with this script (that it dies) only started recently. Supposedly, no changes were made to the script, it simply started to die. (Sadly, the code for the site was only recently put into Subversion, and I only recently joined the project, so I've no way to e...
