X11TransTRANS error on aix 6.1

Each time an X application is starting from the terminal, there is an
error line
_X11TransTRANS(ibmSHMConnect) () can't connect: errno = 68
We start applications in vnc window.
os version: 6.1
What can be the reason? Wrong network setup? There are lines
describing localhost and servername in /etc/hosts.

I ran into the same problem. I'm still trying to figure out why this
behavior changed between our (working) 5.3 systems and our (now broke)
6.1 systems.

It looks like the cause of this problem is due to the DISPLAY variable
not being properly set. I noticed that explicitly setting the display
variable to the proper setting will temporarily fix the issue.

In my case, on the broke system the DISPLAY variable was set to this --
> :3
I got it working by prepending this value with the hostname--->
export DISPLAY=3D<hostname of my server>:3

One potential fix would be to manually export the display in
my .kshrc, but personally I'd rather figure out what changed during
our upgrade.

fuser functionality seems to have changed in AIX 6.1 TL8 and AIX 7.1
Hi AIX Gurus, Our company has some scripts that are used to check if users are logged int= o a specific directory or file system, and the script uses the fuser comman= d. What we do is look at the PIDs listed in "fuser ${pathname}" to determine w= hich users are accessing what files. This is done so we can do maintenance = at times. AIX 5.1 / VAC 6.0 vs AIX 5.2 / patched VAC 6.0
Hi everybody, I am trying to build some C++ application on the following environment: AIX 5.2 / patched Visual Age C++ 6.0. This application is based on libraries built for the AIX 5.1 / Visual Age C++ 6.0 (base, ie no patch) platform. Compilation works fine. Folks wanting to migrate AIX 5.3 ( with TCB Enabled) to AIX 6.1 and create WPAR
Greetings!!! Running AIX5.3 with TCB enabled and wanted to migrate to AIX6.1 to exploit AIX6.1 by creating WPAR was not possible. Here is a way to acheive that (if you are still on AIX5.3): 0. Modify PdAt for TCB_STATE (Make a copy of PdAt): i.e. odmget -q attribute=TCB_STATE PdAt | sed 's/tcb_enabled/ tcb_disabled/' | odmchange -o PdAt -q attribute=TCB_STATE 1. Migrate AIX5.3 to AIX6.1 Migration (Install) would pick up TCB_STATE and populate /usr/lpp/bos/ inst_root. 2. Create WPAR. Have not noticed any consequences, though testing was limited. -Khatir These are my person...

Error compiling gcc/g++ 4.1.1 on AIX 5.2
Hi, I'm trying to compile gcc/g++ 4.1.1 on AIX 5.2. I called configure with parameters --disable-aix64 --disable-nls --enable-languages=c++. XLF 6.1 on AIX 5.1. Can it be done? Libary issues.

I also got an original unopened package of XLF 6.1. I used to use XLF 6.1 at work and I thought we were running it on AIX 5.1, but when I installed it on the RS6000 at home, I ran into trouble. The install was successful (although I did have to install bos.adt.libm from the AIX CD1, but I got that figured out). But when I try to compile/link something, it gives an error. KRB5 1.4 vs. KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2
I was hoping someone might be able to help me fix an issue I have encountered. I tested KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2 using C for AIX and the installed make. Created a krb5.conf and krb5.keytab to talk to a Windows 2k AD Domain Controller. Had no issues, connected and received tickets fine. I recently installed KRB5 1.4 on the same machine after removing the 1.3.6 footprint. I encountered an issue seen by others with the error: "Syntax error at line 1 : `(' is not matched" when using AIX's make; but it seems to work fine using GNU Make. After compiling and doing a make install, I consistently receive the following message when using kinit while using the same keytab and configuration as 1.3.6: "Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm while getting initial credentials" Is there a significant change to krb5.conf between 1.3.6 and 1.4 ? The binaries seem to work fine; but it does not look like it is even looking at the krb5.conf file. I can change the name or move it and the message stays the same. I have tried disabling DNS for realm and kdc; put master_kdc in the entries; but still does not even act like it is looking at this file. Any help is greatly appreciated. AIX 6.1 kload()
Hi Everyone, My application has one executable: example.exe one library:libcapt.so libcapt.so links to libsub.so. example.exe loads libcapt.so using dlopen(). libcapt.so and libsub.so has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. /opt/example/lib - contains 32 bit versions /opt/example64/lib - contains 64 bit versions. I have two AIX 6.1 setups where I am seeing a difference in loading libcapt.so library. LIBPATH="/opt/example/lib:/opt/example64/lib" is exported on both machines. Just before dlopen() call I am doing chdir() to /opt/example64/lib path. Problem: While loading libcapt.so on MC2, i am getting bad magic number error and loading library fails. on this machine it is trying load libsub.so from /opt/example/lib 32 bit directory. Below are truss output findings on both machines: On MC1: kload("/opt/simpana/Base64/libCvIbsad.so", 17367680, "") = 648518346072921824 Here no LIBPATh is passed to kload(). On MC2: kload("/opt/example64/lib/libcapt.so", 17367680, "/opt/example/lib:/opt/example64/lib:/usr/lib") = 0 Here, I am receiving bad magic number error as it is referring libsub.so from /opt/example/lib while loading libcapt.so. 1. I am calling dlopen(), will it call kload() on AIX? 2. any idea why LIBPATH is not being passed to kload() in MC1? If I set the LIBPATH to /opt/example64/lib, it works fine in MC2. But I could not understand why it is not failing on MC1. The only ...

KRB5 1.4 vs. KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2 (fwd)
I have done some research on this problem. The host resolve code does not complete successfully. I have traced the error to the routine at /kerberos/mit/krb5-1.4/src/lib/krb5/os/dnsglue.c. In the routine a call is made to res_ninit to provide dns information for the kdc. res_ninit updates the structure at statbuf but overlays memory 72 bytes past the structure boundary. I have opened a problem with IBM on res_ninit. The problem is not yet resolved but IBM suggested using a malloc for the structure instead of static storage. I am trying to get IBM to correct the error in res_ninit. Thanks. The problem also exist using GNU ld on AIX too. RE: KRB5 1.5 or 1.6 compiled on AIX 5.2/5.3 #5
Phil, Tested on AIX 5.3 TL05 SP4 with XLC++/XLC 8.0 and worked great ! I will be testing on AIX 5.2 TL09 SP3 and AIX 4.3 ML11 here shortly... Thanks for getting this figured out ! Also, appreciate the help from Sam and Martin who were working on it too... So far I have only tested the client commands: klist, kvno, kinit, kdestroy. No 3rd party software tested yet, either. This was done with the IBM VisualAge C++ Professional / C for AIX Compiler, Version 6. The one major change: add LDFLAGS="-brtl" to configure. My configure line was (prefix edited): ./configure --without-krb4 --prefix=... CC=cc LDFLAGS=-brtl There was one problem during the 1.{5,6} builds (1.5 has a bug that's been documented already), it failed in making all in plugins/kdb/db2/libdb2/test... with ld: 0706-006 Cannot find or open library file: -l db ld:open(): A file or directory in the path name does not exist. my quick&dirty fix for that was (starting in .../krb5-1.6/src/): cd lib ln -s ../plugins/kdb/db2/libdb2/libdb.so.1.1 libdb.so.1.1 ln -s libdb.so.1.1 libdb.so -Phil Privileged and Confidential. Funny error in "make bootstrap" of GCC 4.1.1 on AIX 5.3
I am getting the following error building GCC 4.1.1 on AIX 5.3 on a 44P-170 using GCC 3.3.2 that comes on the latest toolkit CD.
