Informix

I'm trying to port an Informix application from SCO Unix 3.2.4.2 to
OpenServer 6. Everything works except "sqlexecd", which aborts with a bad
system call trying to open /dev/inet/tcp. The 3.2.4.2 Informix binaries are
from Informix OnLine Version 5.0. Has anyone done this, or have any advice
on how to proceed?

Richard,

I believe there is an OSR5 compatibility bug in one of the ioctl calls
made by sqlexecd.
I think this affects all timod ioctls from OSR5, e.g., TI_GETINFO,
TI_OPTMGMT, TI_BIND, etc.

A bug has raised against this issue. Please contact your SCO Support
channel if you need a fix for this issue.

Regards,

John

Richard,

There may also be a bug with Y2K with the YEAR.
I experienced this problem and have a bandaid if needed.

Win2k Ras/VPN and a SCO Unix Machine and some difficulty getting to the SCO Machine [LONG]
First let me say I am sorry for the length of this but I wanted to provide as much info as possible. I have a client that has a Compaq system running SCO Unix 5.0.7 system in conjunction with a Win2k System providing VPN access. #uname -X System = SCO_SV Node = theirnode Release = 3.2v5.0.7 KernelID = 2003-02-18 Machine = Xeon BusType = ISA Serial = XXXXXXXXXXX Users = 30 OEM# = 0 Origin# = 1 NumCPU = 1 The bulk of their processing is done via dumb terminal connections but they also have a few in-house workstations connected via ethernet and then DSL access via Windows VPN. There is a Netopia DSL modem, a Linksys DSL/Broadband hub (acting as a Hub, router and gateway), a Linksys wireless Access Point and a Windows 2000 system which is the VPN Server and also handles some DNS functions. The Windows 2k machine has 2 NICS - one classed as WAN and one as LAN but they are on the same subnet (as you will see). Our problem is that while the internal network connections all work flawlessly the connections via the VPN are really a hit and miss sort of thing. It always seems and my testing seems to confirm that we can get to the VPN server on the Win2k box and get an IP address (using DHCP via the VPN) but then we will only be able to ping the NIC cards the Win2k machine possesses or the Linksys routers (which we had to go through to get to the VPN Box anyways) but our access to the SCO Unix box will fail while trying to connect - pings will fail as well. As ...

SCO UNIX 3.2.4 vs SCO OS4/5 device driver compatibility
Greetings! The subject pretty much says it all. I've got an ancient SCO 3.2.4 system that must live at least a few years longer. I'm looking into virtualizing it using the QEMU emulator but am having a time finding network card drivers specifically for pre-Open Server versions. The virtualized network device I'm wanting to use is the RTL8029 (PCI ne2000). Any advice, comments or directions would be fantastic. There was an NE2K driver for 3.2v4.x ("nat"). Note that it was notorious for not working well with clones. I also don't know if it had ever heard of PCI. The lowest-end NIC emulated by VMware virtualization is an AMD PCnet-PCI. The "pnt" driver for that did exist and did support PCI versions back in 3.2v4.x. I haven't actually tested the combination of 3.2v4.x + "pnt" + VMware. It does work with OSR5 + VMware. You can use the free VMware Player for this purpose. I don't know what NIC hardware is emulated by Xen, KVM, Hyper-V, etc. Hmmmm. The "pn...

given 5-year old Dell Poweredge 2300 server, SCO Unix, 2x9GB hDD
I was just given a Dell Poweredge 2300 server with 2 x 9.1 GB hard drives, 64MB RAM. It has SCO (version 7, circa 1999) Unix loaded. I know next to nothing about Unix/Linux. I was going to use this as a box to learn Linux. Then eventually use it a production web server LAMP ( Linux, Apache PHP and MySQL). Advice on what to do with it? Stick with SCO or dump it for Linux?
