how to change the LANG envirement value for the ftpd server #3

hello,all
    We have a HP-UNIX 11 and have simple chinese language
support.It seems the system default LANG is simple
chinese. The cde default language is chinese and inetd
is chinese too since the ftpd server LANG is chinese.
So where the default LANG is set? But while I login
as root, the locale command output is as below:

LANG=
LC_CTYPE="C"
LC_COLLATE="C"
LC_MONETARY="C"
LC_NUMERIC="C"
LC_TIME="C"
LC_MESSAGES="C"
LC_ALL=

it seems the normal value. And there is no relevant
envirement value set in /.profile file.
So why root's locale is not the same as the cde and
inted program?

I would also like to change the ftpd's LANG setting.
but not the inted , can I do it? The corelative line in
the config file inted.conf is as below:

ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/ftpd ftpd -l

many thanks,

PanTao

Shell Titles that change per Server
I recently made a maybe booboo while I was working on what I thought was a test server when in fact was a live server. I mostly use an Xterm running from cygwin, with a bash shell. After this mishap I searched high and low looking for a way to make it extremely obvious what server I was on. I found many settings to change the $PS1 variable and other .bashrc settings, but they all applied to my local working environment. For example I can get my username+host+current directory put in my title of my Xterm but when I log into server Y the title does not change to reflect this. I fear this may be something that is impossible as the only way I see this working is to update all of the local variables settings for all of the servers I login to. This is unfeasible as I login to many different servers with different shells and shared login accounts. It would take a very long time and could potentially be catastropic as these variables could get changed without my knowledge! What I really need is a local settings/program that wil give me an indication of where I was currently logged into. It would not even have to give me the exact name, possible just change colour to RED if I was on a live!!! Re: How to change the value of a character variable. #3
From: peter.crawford@blueyonder.co.uk Sent: Mon 11/08/2003 08:52 To: Cc: sas-l@listserv.uga.edu Subject: How to change the value of a character variable. Hi alex nilla <alexnilla@YAHOO.COM>, why do you need to change the data? It might be simpler just to change the presentation, so the user of the data sees "motor cycle" when the data holds "motor". SAS has an easy way to do this without even having to change the relevant cases. The method is referred to as "formatting the variable". The method associates a user-defined format with a variable/column (see: on-line-doc /proc format /value statement). As you might guess, the association is one-off issue for the dataset, (use proc datasets /modify /format ) Alternatively, if this is unnecessary or impossible, you can provide a format statement at the point in your program where the data will be used. Perhaps, you have a data reading problem -- If the data really must be changed, it might be better to read it differently. A user-defined informat (see the proc format invalue statement) can convert the input string "motor" into "motor cycle". Maybe you just need to improve your input statement with a trailing & input modifier (to tolerate single embedded blanks). Very simple questions may have non-simple solutions, but usually the answer is to fix something that occurs before the problem surfaces. With more definition of why (your subject line)... we might offer more...

Re: how to change the form of missing value #3
Not sure if I understand what your data actually look like. You can always physically change values. For example: data have; input x; if x eq 0 then call missing(x); cards; 1 .. 3 0 5 ; proc print data=have; run; Let the list know if that doesn't solve the problem. value change using DataSocket can't create value change event on remote computer?
I am trying to create an event on the remote computer: &nbsp; Local computer: Change a value in remote computer by DataSocket. &nbsp; Remote Computer: create a event: when the value changes. &nbsp; I can see the value change on the remote computer; however, the value change doesn't cause the "value change event". &nbsp; Anyone tried this before?&nbsp; Thanks. Hi, Event Structure monitors a specified event based on user interaction on the front-panel objects. However, it does not monitor event generated programmatically like a change in the DataSocket data value. In order to generate a value change event with the DataSocket, you will need to use the "value (signaling)" property node for the DataSocket data or control. This property node sets the value of the control and also generates a Value Change event. &nbsp; To create the property node, simply right click the control and select "Create&gt;&gt;Property Node&gt;&gt; Value (Signaling)". You can then wire the output from the DataSocket read to this property. &nbsp; You can also checkout this <a href="http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/024828947672E68586256ADB0071FB1B?OpenDocument" target="_blank">knowledgebase</a> entry for additional information. &nbsp; Tunde Value (Signaling) is available in 7.1. In fact, it was introduced in version 7.0. <img> Message Edited by Dennis Knutson on 12-15-2006 01...

dcmtk ijg_boolean, changes from 3.5.2 to 3.5.3
Hello, Just thought i'll share some quirks i stumbled on while using the jpeg libraries (and wrappers that come with DCMTK) and compiling them with another project. The problem was that ijg defines boolean differently from other system hearders (on windows). Luckily ijg allows to change the definition of "boolean" in the headers (in my case: from int to unsigned char). Although the change makes my project happy, other parts of dcmtk 3.5.3 are not, while this went smoothly in 3.5.2. Browsing through the dcmtk files I think following declarations might have to be changed (unix diff format): djdijg8.cxx: 97c97 < int DJDIJG8fillInputBuffer(j_decompress_ptr); --- > ijg_boolean DJDIJG8fillInputBuffer(j_decompress_ptr); 125c125 < int DJDIJG8fillInputBuffer(j_decompress_ptr cinfo) --- > ijg_boolean DJDIJG8fillInputBuffer(j_decompress_ptr cinfo) djeijg8.cxx: 85c85 < int DJEIJG8emptyOutputBuffer(j_compress_ptr cinfo); --- > ijg_boolean DJEIJG8emptyOutputBuffer(j_compress_ptr cinfo); 115c115 < int DJEIJG8emptyOutputBuffer(j_compress_ptr cinfo) --- > ijg_boolean DJEIJG8emptyOutputBuffer(j_compress_ptr cinfo) Regards, Igor ...

Re: Changing from Text to Value for a bunch of variables #3
If you can clarify how this is going to be used, it will be helpful. If you are going to simply display them as 1 and 0 in a report, you can do that with a format. If you are going to use them for analysis, then you will have to change the variable type from character to numeric. That too is possible, but only at the expense of actually creating a new variable and renaming it to the old variable. You already have an answer for the latter. If it the former then: proc format ; value $yesno "YES" = "1" "NO" = "0" "Yes" = "1" "No" = "0" ; run ; title "After Format" ; proc print ; format c1 - character - c4 $yesno. ; run ; This assumes that the variables of interest are the only character variables that exist in the PDV between the two variables mentioned in the format statement. Yes, numeric variable can exist in between without doing any harm. _________________________________ Venky Chakravarthy E-mail: swovcc_AT_hotmail_DOT_com -----Original Message----- From: jsl [mailto:nospam@NOSPAM.COM] Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2003 8:50 AM To: SAS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU Subject: Changing from Text to Value for a bunch of variables I have about 20-30 variables in a large dataset that take on the value "YES" or "Yes" and "No" or "NO". BCP MS SQL Server data from unix shell script
hi, I need to retrieve data from a table from MS SQL database and then populate sybase database tables from the same. The procedure i thought of is: - 1. BCP MS SQL data onto a flat file. 2. Read that flat file and BCP in again into Sybase table. Now all this processing shall take place through a shell script. Prior to BCP i created a DSN for connecting to the MS SQL database When i run the BCP command seperately from a command prompt it runs fine and generates a flat file form the table too. The i also BCPed in the flat file into sybase table which too went fine. But the same procedure wont work from a shell script. If i try to invoke the bcp command from a unix promt it wont connect to the MS SQL database which i thought it wont, as per my knowledge Microsoft hasnt come up with a driver for connecting its SQL server from unix. Can anybody suggest as to how shall one BCP MS SQL data within a shell script or for that matter even a perl script? Rohan I don't know how much data you have to port - if it's a lot, then the following is going to take a long time. MS SQL comes with a tool - SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Look up in the tool bar and find the little "magic wand" with stars - the microtext reads "Run a Wizard". Click it. This brings up the "select wizard" popup window that has an entry "Data Transformation Services". Click it. This expands into two entries DTS Export Wiza...
