syslogd running at 100% cpu
On a solaris 10 system one instance of syslogd is running at 100% cpu
utilization. There are a total of three instances of syslogd:
Ps -ef / grep syslogd
Root 19654. 1. 2 Aug 14. ? 96321:15 /usr/sbin/syslogd
Root 15641 1. 0 Aug 14. ? 0:08 /usr/sbin/syslogd
Root.15432 1. 0. Aug 14. ? 0.08 /usr/sbin/syslogd
Also what does 96321:15 mean?
Someone suggested restarting syslogd:
# svcadm restart svc:/system/system-log:default

2 ldap sources for users
Greetings!
I have a need to have 2 different ldaps as sources for the OS users.
I couldn't find a clue anywhere as to whether this is even possible,
think not, but maybe someone will have an idea how to do this (or
something similar).
I would have no problem configuring the PAM stack to authenticate
against multiple ldap sources, but NSS is not as flexible.
What I would like to be able to say in my nsswitch.conf is:
passwd: files ldap1 ldap2
And I also want 'getent passwd' to return all users from 2 different
ldaps.
Unfortunately the 'ldap' keyword in the nsswitch.conf tells the

Two sol-10 systems: one with much blastwave, other with none. EASY make identical?
I have two systems (both sparc):
blade 100
blade 2500
The 2500 has a ton of extra stuff in /opt -- a very
large subdirectory "csw", holds a ton of packages
gotten via Blastwave.
What I'd *like* to do is to EASILY (that's the catch)
get that blastwave also installed on the 100.
Now, since there currently is no /opt/csw directory on
the 100, perhaps I could simply, via tar tape, say,
copy that csw dir-tree from the 2500 into the 100.
Now, Blastwave creates and keeps some kind of
database about the currently-installed blastwave-packages.
Presumably that file is

Fueling your car with natural gas from home
Dear Everyone,
as you know the price of the Oil is more and more increasing, while
the oil supply is decreasing. Moreover Oil is
causing wars, terror, oil spills, a lot of greenhouse gases. Do you
know that there is plenty of natural gas ? The
supply will last for many decades, probably for hundred years. A lot
of methane (natural gas) is found as shale gas,
a lot more will come from methane hidrates. Natural gas is causing
much less greenhouse gases and since it is found
locally, it will not cause any wars or terror. It will create jobs in
your own country and not in the middle east

moving mirrored zpool from old server to new
I have a Sol10 (10/09) server which needs to be replaced due to
gradually failing hardware. All the important data is in a two-whole-
disk mirrored zpool which is separate from the boot volume. I've
brought up a new machine running the same 10/09 release and am ready

services provided by the old machine and a number of client machines
are hardwired to speak to it, so I'd like to make the migration
gradually. The other problem is that I'm pretty much of a ZFS novice.

Energy Saving Tips
1. Reduce heater's room temperature
For each extra degree (Celsius) of temperature, your heater will
consume 7 to 11%
more energy. Adjust it to 18degrees which is also better for your
health.
2. Install a programmable thermostat
You will be able to control the heater's temperature during specific
hours every day.
3. Insulate your house
Loss of heat is loss of energy.
4. Fix air leaks
5. Close the chimney of the fireplace when you don't use it
It is designed to drive smoke (hot air) out of the house!
6. Get an energy audit to advice you about the necessary fixes and
insulation

MaxStartups
Specifies the maximum number of concurrent

I assume by "unathenticated" it basically states that you sshd won't

I was wondering if there was a way to limit the number of autheticated
