/etc/name_to_sysnum not in man?

  • Follow

Hi,

I just wondered why /etc/name_to_sysnum seems not to be referenced
in any man page

    $ grep name_to_sysnum `find /usr/share/man/ ` | wc -l
       0

Are there any good reasons for this?

    Peter

try a search on docs.sun.com and you'l find some SAM-FS docs
referencing it.

It's probably because a user is never supposed to mess with it.

Just like /etc/name_to_major: this file may not exist or may have
different contents or interpretations in a future release. The
existence of this notice does not imply that any other
documentation that lacks this notice constitutes an API.

I think that's how sun's disclaimer goes...
