3Com 3C940 on x86 and Solaris 10

  • Follow

Hello:

I have installed Solaris 10 (08/07 release) on a x86 machine
(asus motherboard). The NIC is a 3C940 Gigabit LOM. I have
installed the package sol3C940 downloaded from the Asus web
site. I have configured the files

   /etc/defaultrouter
   /etc/resolv.conf
   /etc/nsswitch.conf
   /etc/hostname.tcge0
   /etc/inet/hosts
   /etc/inet/ipnodes

When the system is booted, the NIC is active and I can reach the outside
world:

# netstat -i
Name Mtu Net/Dest Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Collis
Queue
lo0 8232 loopback localhost 86 0 86 0 0 0
tcge0 1500 ccarchi-pc4 ccarchi-pc4 984 0 1265 0 0 0

# netstat -r

Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface

default 172.17.4.190 UG 1 12

localhost localhost UH 1 40 lo0

However, /var/adm/messages keeps recording a kernel error message related
to tcge0:

# tail -f /var/adm/messages
Nov 12 09:44:35 ccarchi-pc4 tcge: [ID 610292 kern.notice] tcge0: -- ERROR

Nov 12 09:44:35 ccarchi-pc4 tcge: [ID 285869 kern.notice] ERROR: tcge0:

When I do a "prtconf -v", there are 5 instances of IRQ 10, which is the
IRQ assigned to the tcge0 device:

# prtconf -v | fgrep "vector="
                 Interrupt Priority=0x5 (ipl 5), vector=0x1 (1)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x5 (ipl 5), vector=0xc (12)
                 Interrupt Priority=0xc (ipl 12), vector=0x4 (4)
                 Interrupt Priority=0xc (ipl 12), vector=0x3 (3)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x5 (ipl 5), vector=0x6 (6)
                     Interrupt Priority=0x9 (ipl 9), vector=0xa (10)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x1 (ipl 1), vector=0xa (10)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x1 (ipl 1), vector=0x5 (5)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x1 (ipl 1), vector=0xb (11)
                     Interrupt Priority=0x6 (ipl 6), vector=0xa (10)
                     Interrupt Priority=0x9 (ipl 9), vector=0xa (10)
                 Interrupt Priority=0x9 (ipl 9), vector=0xa (10)

What can I do to solve this problem ? Are there BIOS parameters to
adjust ?
