A1000 error when newfsing...Unable to read disk geometry

  • Follow

I have two A1000 arrays connected to a V1280. I have Solaris 8
installed and RM6 (latest version for Sol 8). After installing a
segment that mirrors the disks for me, the segment attempts to newfs
the slices. That's when the unable to read disk geometry error comes
up. What can I do to fix this?

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "segment" there. This is
a script or something that uses the raidmanager tools to mirror an
existing LUN, or it's creating new mirrored LUNs?

The creation of mirrored or R5 LUNs takes a while as it copies data
around. Unlike more modern arrays, the LUN is not accessible until
after this completes. If you look in the RM6 gui, can you see the
status of the LUN? Is it online?

It's creating new mirrored luns.

I have removed the segment that creates my luns and the one that
creates the mirrors as well. At this point I have cleared all data on
the A1000s and they show up active in RM6. What is strange is when I
do a format the arrays are listed before the internal/external disks
as having 6 MB. I have 12 72G disks in each array.

What is a segment?

What is the configuration? Do you have LUNs ready to go? How big are
they in RM6?

The disks in the array are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is
the LUN configuration. If you have a 6MB LUN, then that's all the OS is
going to see.

What is your LUN configuration?
