Can not open boot device from alternate disk after mirrored

  • Follow

Hi,

I have mirrored the root disk in a E450 running Solaris 9 and there is
no error in metastat output. When I tried to boot from the alternate
boot disk from ok prompt, the screen display "can not open boot
device". What should be the likely cause?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi

I'd say that you have to install a bootblock on the mirrored disk. See
man installboot(1M).

Just did installboot but still can not boot from the alternate mirrored
root disk. Same message "can not open boot device"

Hi,

Make sure the boot device is right. You may need to tweak the OBP
variable.

I think that would be more likely to produce a "The file loaded does not
appear to be executable" message.

"can not open boot device" suggests that the name being passed to boot
isn't allowing it to find the root mirror.
