Connecting to Network Drive On Solaris10 ?
Hi Guru's
I have recently installed Soalris 10 11/04 on my laptop..
Im not using DHCP and was wondering how I can connect to my Network
Drive ( NAS ) via the Network Places icon on the java desktop. I
initially had it working via DHCP but it kept booting with hostname
"unknown", which I didn't like at all.... So... I removed DHCP.
I can ping the address but when I try to navigate to the shared files
nothing is shown ???
I know I may be doing something "stupid" but if anyone can point me in
the right direction I'd be most grateful.
If I have left any info out, please let me know and Ill add...
TIA

Add /etc/nodename with your hostname in it and re-enable DHCP.

I have /etc/nodename
But do I have to have DHCP ?
If so, to do that, would this be right ?
add /etc/dhcp/dhcp.NIC
add /etc/dhcp.NIC
and remove dns from hosts entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf ?

I'd just do a sys-unconfig and make sure /etc/nodename was there afterwards.

You should see some entries in /etc/nsswitch.conf like:
#hosts: files # Commented out by DHCP
hosts: files dns # Added by DHCP
#ipnodes: files # Commented out by DHCP
ipnodes: files dns # Added by DHCP
You should also now have a valid /etc/resolv.conf

You don't have to go that far, just create a valid resolv.conf and edit
nsswitch.conf.
What is your DHCP server by the way?
