Disk "drive type unknown"

  • Follow

On my U10, format gives me this:

AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
       0. c0t0d0 <drive type unknown>
          /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/dad@0,0

I have no problems with this disk, my root disk, but I'm curious
as to why it's unknown. As far as I know, it is the original
disk, and I do recall seeing correct values in there at some point
in the past (possibly not with the current Solaris install).

iostat tells me this:

c0t0d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Model: ST39120A Revision: 3.11 Serial No: 7BV01DJL
Size: 9.11GB <9114255360 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0

One thing I have attempted doing is running format with the
format.dat posted to various groups, but it is still unidentified.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Eric

No problems with this drive?
I would prepare for the pending failure
