Hard reset RSC password...it's possible?

  • Follow

Hi all,

I've two SunFire V480 with RSC, I'm not able to enter to the RSC console
as I do not have password.
I've tried to unmount RSC board and disconnect batteries, but this
didn't reset the password.

There's a way/procedure to reset to factory default the RSC board?
There's no other way to install and use the V480 system as it haven't
any other exit.

Thanks
Stefano

I think you need to reset the password from a root shell. Removing the
card or battery won't reset the card.

To recover the RSC when you don't have the password and can't boot and
login to Solaris the procedure is something like this:
1) Unplug the server and physically remove the RSC board - this will
force the console back to the serial console port
2) Connect to the serial console port and install Solaris
3) Use the "eeprom" command to set the console-input device back to
keyboard and console-output device back to screen
4) Shutdown the system and physically install the RSC board
5) Power on the system and install the RSC software in Solaris
6) Use the RSC commands (in /usr/platform/`uname -i`/rsc) to update
the RSC firmware, configuration and password
7) If desired, use eeprom to set console-input and console-output to
rsc-console

Hi,

you can skip steps 1, 3, 4 just by setting key to DEBUG position (key
is located in front of SF480 just above poweron button). It will
bypass RSC and will set input-device and output-device to go through
serial port or keyboard/screen.
