How do I start CDE or GUI on Solaris 10?
I'll be honest -- just installed Solaris 10 for the first time and am a
Windows guy venturing into the Solaris world. I do have Unix shell
experience, enough to navigate dirs, edit files, and stop/start
services.
The install appeared to go fine, however can someone tell me how to
start the GUI from the # prompt?
Thanks.

How did you get the # prompt? The GUI is presented by default when you
log in, and/or the machine is booted.
I take it you have rebooted aftering installing?

Maybe Solaris doesn't support the OP's vidboard so did the text install
& boots to a console?

How much RAM does the computer have? Did you ever have a GUI while
installing? Were you asked to configure a graphics card?

Just doing that would be:
/etc/init.d/dtlogin start
(then logout from the "root" Text Console Session asap)
