If you have an extra disk, format it as UFS. Use cp to copy the files
from the ZFS disk to the UFS disk.
What problem are you trying to solve?? I have heard no complaints about
ZFS and AFAIK, it works as well as or better than UFS.
UFS to ZFS Do I understand correctly that taking a pre-existing UFS slice and
converting it to one member of a ZFS pool will destroy any data
that was on the UFS?

How else would/could it be a member of a different FS?

ZFS or UFS Firstly I don't have knowledge on zfs or ufs. I just know that they
are filesystems for Solaris as ext2/ext3 in Linux.
When I first installed Solaris 10 I selected auto layout for
partitioning. It allocated only 5GB to the / and as I was not aware of
this, creator of problems.
Now it's time to install Solaris 10 again.
I need some suggestions. I heard zfs is better. Should I select zfs as

Converting back to tape Hi Guys,
I have decided after many years to go back to a C64, nostalgia finally
got the better of me. Now I have a issue. I have some old games and
files that I had transferred to the PC some years ago and now I want to
put them back onto tape.
I guess all I need is a piece of software that outputs the file to the
sound card at the correct speed but does such a piece of software exist?
Anyone any other ideas? (I would rather not go for a 15241 drive)

It's on Apple Assembly Line Disk 5, "AAL_5.DSK".
I'll send you a copy of it if you need me to, but
I believe it's on Asimov FTP site. I have a ZIP file
so I'm sure that's how it'll be found.

Converting floats to Strings and back Hello,
I'm trying to convert a String to a float, do some arithmetic on it, then
display the new value on a Swing text field. Then do the reverse. Take a
decimal numeric value the operator has entered from the GUI, convert it to a
float do some arithmetic to remove the decimal, convert it back to a String
to save it to a database.
The code works fine until I exceed 8 digits. Beyond 8 digits the float is
stored in memory in scientific notation (found this out by stepping through
using the debugger) so when it is converted to a String I do not get the
correct data. I get something li...
ZFS Vs UFS 100263 Has anyone done any benchmarking around performance of ZFS and UFS for
a io heavy application server with >1TB and greater than a million
I read somewhere that one of the limitations of UFS is that it cant
support more than a million inodes when the FS is >1TB.
Anyone have any exp with RaidZ

Migrate /var from UFS to ZFS Hi,
I am quite new to Solaris10 and ZFS and I want to change /var from UFS
What I did:
ufsdump -0f /export/var.dump /var
umount -f /var
zpool create -f -m /var var c0t2d0s4
ufsrestore rvf /export/var.dump
Now after removing the /var mount point from /etc/vfstab and rebooting,
no /var is mounted at all - therefore the system doesn't come up
Relating to svcs -x and some console errors, I got the following hints:
"set mountpoint=/var" to automount, or:
"set mountpoint=legacy" and set a proper entry in /etc/vfstab
None of these worked. Ca...
Convert date to number and back I have a need to convert simple dates (i.e. 02/14/2005) to a number,
do some math, and convert back to a date. (in a simple query).
The math involves adding or substracting days, and days of the week .
I've used the weekday() function to convert dates to numberic days of
the week (1-7)
I've used cdbl (date) to convert a date to a serial number, but then I
do math with the number and I can't seem to convert this back to a
