Installation problems of Solarisx86 9

  • Follow

Hi group,

maybe someone can help me getting through the Solaris x86 installation
process. The installation hangs, when I have to chose the current
language (in my case 2 for Germany). I can't hit any of the keyboard
keys and the whole keyboard seems to be dead (caps lock doesn't work)

In the beginning of the installation I receive 2 errors:

At the bus enumeration:

Warning: Ressource conflict both devices are added:

Non ACPI device PNP0C01
Memory 9FC00-9FFFF, 1FFFF0000-1FFFF7FFF, 1FFF8000-1FFFFFFF,
FFFF0000-FFFFFFFF

ACPI device PNP0C01
Memory 9FC00-9FFFF, 40FFC000-FFFFFFFF, FFFF0000-FFFFFFFF

And another one:
Warning: Ressource conflict both devices are added:

Non ACPI device ISY0050
Port: 3F0-3F5, 3F7; IRQ6 DMA2

ACPI device ISY0050
Port: 3F2-3F3, 3F4-3F522; IRQ6 DMA2

Later, in the device list, I figured out that the first conflict must
be a conflict between the RAM and the PNP Bios RAM.

The second warning comes from the disk controller. Now, if I remove
the ACPI devices or the Non-ACPI devices, my problem still exist.

The keyboard hangs an I don't have any clue what to do.

My configuration:

Gigabyte 7IXE4 (newest BIOS)
AMD Athlon 858 MHz
512 MByte RAM
NVIDIA GForce MX2
Maxtor 28.6 GByte harddisc
Maxtor 114.5 GByte harddisc22
3COM 3C905B TX Fast Etherlink
Soundblaster Live

I would be very happy for any hint.

Thanks!

This is the prompt for the language, on a screen with white background
colour?

(That is, the Solaris kernel is already running and does not use the
BIOS any more to read from the console keyboard)

And what kind of keyboard are you using? PS/2? USB?

Buggy BIOS most likely.

Buggy BIOS definately (it's the floppy disk controller BTW).

In both cases, the BIOS's ACPI does not agree with the BIOS's
leagacy methods.

The bus enumeration is done before that is taken into account,
so you'll still get the warning message. You could turn off
ACPI in the BIOS if it has that option.

What type of keyboard (PS/2, USB, serial)?
You could try one of the other options.

Yes, the kernel is booting.

It's an ordinary PS/2 keyboard. I also tried another keyboard with no
additional (and often annoying) Microsoft keys.

No, unfortunately I can't.

It's a PS/2 keyboard and I also tried another keyboard.

I booted with Knoppix, which showed no errors. Additionally I
installed a Suse distribution, which installed correctly but also
showed the disk controller errors. Nevertheless it works with Linux,
but I like to have the Solaris running.

Any further hints?
