JavaDesktop / Gnome on Ultra Solaris 10

  • Follow

Hello all,

I've just upgraded my SUN Blade 1500 from Sol 8 to Sol 10. When I select a
'JavDesktop' session after I try to login the splash screen comes briefly on,
but then I am kicked out to the dt logon screen again.

I could switch desktops to KDE at dt logon, which I assume is unsuported. But
when I tried to use the JavaDesktop it simply returns me back to the log on
screen of CDE.

Also, here may be something wrong with the gnome installation part on my
machine:

Everytime I try to run a gtk based app it says

    % gtk-demo
No fonts found; this probably means that the fontconfig
library is not correctly configured. You may need to
edit the fonts.conf configuration file. More information
about fontconfig can be found in the fontconfig(3) manual
    page and on http://fontconfig.org

Are GNOME or javadsktop supported out of the box on Solaris 10 on Ultra ?

How do I conigure to use the latest GNOME and JavaDesktop ? Especially, how do
I configure the fonts?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Michael

It might be a problem with older gnome dotfiles messing about.
Can you try using a virgin account never used in the past to see if
the problem remains?
