Can you not send yourself an email with "attachment" on the box that
has mailx??

That would answer the question best. mailx does not "receive" email,
its a client
that reads from your local /var/mail account.. The body of the message
will appear verbatim using mailx

Try sending an attachment and see for yourself what happens
