need to write root owned files under /jumpstart

  • Follow

Got a strange problem here. I have to setup jumpstart on a box I'm
not allowed to have root on. So I've:

- setup sudo to run a wrapper script around add_install_client/rm_client
- given the admin steps to config inetd/bootparams etc...

So far so good. This works.

Now I've got to over the coming weeks put sol8/sol9 & sol10 builds and
even an x86 distro up there under /jumpstart.

How can I setup /jumpstart so that I can write root owned files there
without myself being root?

I'd rather not go thru the hassle of walking them the steps every single
time :-/

Get the on-call pager of the person that has root. That's the easiest
way. IMO, jumpstart is one of those sysadmin tasks that requires root.
If you don't have it, have the person that does setup jumpstart with
you. You talk, they type. That way, the PHB who decided you don't need
access will lose the use of their admin while this project goes on.

This sounds more like a training issue, where you don't want to be the
trainer. That's your call.
