Netra T1 - LOM over network

  • Follow

What's an easy way to get access to a netra's lom over a LAN. All our
other servers have RSC access over the network. Now the boss says "get
access to the Netra LOM as well". I see it has the ports Lom A and Lom
B da back, as well as a Net 0 and a Net 1. As I recall the Netra's take
a special kind of cable (PITA).

Thanks, DBPW (Desperate But Paid Well)

You buy someone's (there are lots of makers) console server and connect
it to the LOM port with a cat 5 cable and one of the adapters that
came with the the Netra.

Or use a serial port on another machine.

Yes. Buy some kind of terminal/console server - I use Digi CM, they
have the nice property of being pin-compatible with sun serial ports,
so you'll manage with just an onrdinary network cable. No adaptors of
any kind needed. (Be warned: Digi sells all kinds of serial devices,
not all of them are pin-compatible. The CM-series is).

I highly recommend conserver (http://www.conserver.com) to manage
all serial/console devices, but if you go with the Digi CM, it really has
all the functionality you need built in.

Same pinout as Cisco, and Netapp. Not much of a problem if you use Digi CM
(or other gear with the same pinout).
