Not able to login from CDE console as root account
Hi,
I just took over two servers (E450) running Solaris 7 and 8. There is
no problem if normal user account is used to login from the CDE
console. When login as root from the CDE console, both systems will
return back to CDE login screen.
Where is the setting that gave the above result ?
Any advice is appreciated.

if root has a .dtprofile (and normally a .dt directory) there is
a line that will enable logging when login into CDE - you can
check out why you are unable to login from the error log
(think it gets called ~/.dt/sessionlogs/<host>_DISPLAY:0)

P.S. if you took them over, there's a possibility it's not an error,
but something someone set up to happen intentionally. It's not
generally a good idea to log in as root with any graphical interface;
indeed, except when in single-user mode or when some problem would
prevent it, it's almost always better to log in as a normal user and
su to root as needed.

This is indeed true. I've never needed to login as root via
CDE login screen.
