pci-x slot on E250/450

I tried looking up the documentation on these...can someone tell me
how many PCI-X slots they have?

Is every PCI slot on them a PCI-X slot?

Thank you

If I remember, there are four PCI slots, and only two are PCI-X. On
	@33MHz, second at 66MHz.

How can I tell which one is PCI and which one is PCI-X on an E250
they're both the same size

Speed of PCI-X ports are written on cabinet (66).

There is no PCI-X slots in E250 or E450. There is few PCI 2.2 slots in
both that operate 66MHz/64bits but that does not make them PCI-X slots.

Hello,

None of them is PCI-X. It is PCI only.

FWIW: Sun has been pretty good about labelling what a slot is on the
outside back by the slot covers. If it says PCI or nothing, you can
pretty much assume its PCI. It'll clearly label the PCI-X slots on the
systems that have them, and show which ones they are.

You might try looking carefully at the card(s) for model number or other
identification. Use the identifying strings to search Google.

You might want to limit your query by adding "site:sun.com". If you
don't find what you need, try removing the "site:sun.com" from your query.

Yes I forgot to add that atleast on E450 the PCI slots are clearly
marked in the case cover that you need to remove in order to access
the slots.

None, and the PCI slots are a mix of 5 volt and 3.3, 33/66MHz and 32/64
bits.

The handbook at sunsolve mentions that part number 501-6738 Quad
GigaSwift PCI-X Rthernet is. A component of the Sun E450 - so support
and hence presence of PCI-X slots exists on the Sun E450

PCI-X is backward compatible with PCI. So it is possible to plug PCI-X
card into a PCI slot and vice versa.

So the conclusion is wrong that the existance of a supported PCI-X does
not necessarely means that there is a PCI-X slot in the system.

Maybe you should read the Ultra Enterprise 450 Server Owners Guide at
docs.sun.com.
