pkg-get remove

  • Follow

Hi,

I've installed some applications using pkg-get, but I'd like to remove
them now. I tried the 'remove' option, but nothing happens. How can I
remove them?

Thanks

Find the real name of the package (hint: it starts with CSW) and use
Solaris native pkgrm.

Will this uninstall all automatically installed dependancies as well?

So this leaves me with 'pkg-get remove'.

Which, according to your original post, does nothing.

Bye, Dragan

This is a problem I've encountered several times. When I wanted to
remove all my CSW packages (my system got screwed up and I wanted a
fresh start) I wrote a script to remove all the packages with "CSW" in
their name. If you look back about a week in this newsgroup's messages,
there's a discussion about the script. Logan Shaw suggested a rather
more refined script than mine.

Thank you. Did you try it? BTW, I also noticed that the -u/-U options
don't work anymore: the host seems to be empty?!

I haven't actually tried Logan's script yet. I removed the packages once
with my script, and when I reinstalled the packages I needed they all
worked fine, so thought it was best to leave well alone. I did think
about mounting /opt on a different slice so that I could experiment with
writing a good a package removal script, but I haven't done it yet. If I
do it sometime I'll post the script here or on the web, as it would be a
useful thing to have. By the way, which CSW mirror site are you using? I
just tested pkg-get -U and it works fine on ibiblio.net (the default)
but not on in-span.net (a site I've used sometimes for old package
versions).

The site it picks each time for the -U and -u option is
ftp:///pub/freeware/i386/5.9/catalog.

BTW, I just tried the ibiblio.net, but it -U doesn't find a description
file. Any idea?

You can set the mirror site you wish to use in the file
/opt/csw/etc/pkg-get.conf. You should have an entry which looks
something like the following (make sure you've added /stable or
/unstable) to the end:

# default site, in USA:
url=http://ibiblio.org/pub/packages/solaris/csw/unstable

I'd be very surprised if this site is broken, but I have found some of
the other mirrors lacking catalogs on occasions.
