Are you tripping over this bug, perhaps?

What's the current permissions on /etc/svc/repository.db?

No, the permissions are

-bash-3.00$ ls -l /etc/svc/repository.db
-rw------- 1 root sys 2311168 Jan 17 11:56 /etc/svc/repository.db

which is the same as on another Solaris box which works fine.

See above.

Any more ideas?

I'm pretty sure I have enabled/disable things before on that machine,
but may be wrong. It is not one I use much.

Is svc.configd running? You could truss it as you try to disable the
service and see if it gets hung up anywhere. I know it tries to create
files in /etc/svc and /etc/svc/volatile (which is a tmpfs).

Want to expose read-only FS for external (network) repository
I'm looking for a mechanism to expose network file storage service to MS Explorer and "standard" Windows programs - i.e. make it look like a read-only local drive I think (i.e. WebDAV is too limited). The service is accessible via the network, but across a custom protocol - the thing is object-based, and has nothing to do with FAT/NTFS/SMB/NFS/etc. Conceptually it's a bit like a database. In the perfect world I'd like to expose the directory structure, file entries, file content, and some file attributes - which may be custom (authorisation level, etc.) End-...

Read a line, read the next line...then read it again
Hi there, I was hoping someone could help this frustrated Perl beginner with a problem. As part of a university project I'm writing a Perl tool to process text files and correct common English grammatical mistakes. What I need my program to do is as follows: 1. Read a line from the input file. 2. Chomp off the \n. 3. Read the next line from the file. 4. Concatenate as follows: $double_line = $line_1." ".$line_2 5. Do some grammar checks. 6. Write the corrected line(s) to the output file. I then need to read line 2 again, concatenate it to line 3, check, then...

Reading a file and resuming reading.
Hi, Simple question. Is it possible in python to write code of the type: ----------------------------- while not eof <- really want the EOF and not just an empty line! readline by line end while; ----------------------------- What I am using now is the implicit for loop after a readlines(). I don't like this at all as a matter of opinion (my background is C++). But also, in case for one reason or another the program crashes, I want to be able to rexecute it and for it to resume reading from the same position as it left. If a while loop like the one above can be implemented I...

destop-read fails to read
Hello all, Here is my problem: On Debian, I create the ~/.emacs.desktop from scratch by first opening the 3 files, all of which are located on the shared FAT32 drive, and then using (desktop-save). But if I close all these buffers, and do a (desktop-read), then it fails: Desktop: 0 buffers restored, 3 failed to restore. If I restart emacs, then the first file listed in the .emacs.desktop is restored, the others are not: Desktop: 1 buffer restored, 2 failed to restore. I have not checked if this desktop file will work from WinXP. But even if it works, it does not work from Debian, which I use...

istream read not reading everything
Hi, I'm having trouble using istream to read in a file in its entirety on UNIX. I've written a dummy program that essencially reads in a file from stdin and writes it out to a file. When I cat a binary file through a unix pipe to the program (cat file | prog) everything works fine. However, when I feed data from a program, one that connects to an open socket so that multiple files can be processed, across a unix pipe (prog1 | prog) the end of each file passed in gets buffered until more data is passed through. The buffering seems to be on my end as the sending program uses a unix writ...

How much was read during istream::read ?
Hi, I'm trying to convert a file reading loop into one using streams. The BSD OS read API returns the number of bytes read, but istream::read returns itself. How can I find out the number of bytes actually read? What the code fragment should do is read up to 1000 bytes into a buffer, or finish early if reading failed. Just your average read loop. I have: (this is a simplified version; I know there's no detailed error checking!) char buffer[1000]; int bytestoread = 1000; int totalbytes = 0; int fd = ... ; // a file descriptor while( bytestoread ) { int bytesread = ...

Reading from a read-only BLOB is allowed

Hello! I`ve got problem. I tried to read data from file using FileInputStream and 'read' method... I don`t exactly know how to do it. I have to use 4096 bytes blocks. sorry for my english Thanks -- Majs According to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/io/FileInputStream.html#read(byte[]) you just call read() with a byte array, and whatever the size of your array, that's how many bytes you'll read, though you have to check return status anywherenotes@gmail.com wrote: > According to > http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/io/FileInputStream.html#read...
