With a Sun 280R we just bought the RSC password is enabled. Unfortunately we 
don't know this and thus would like to reset it... how is this best done?

Hi,

you can do this task directly from Solaris (if you cant boot Solaris,
or cant even access ok prompt, set key in debug position and reboot,
it will bypass rsc and will set input and output-device to ttya).

To change rsc password use utility rscadm.
It somewhere in /usr/platform/`uname -i`

Also, as I remmember, its not installed by default, but part of
package SUNWrsc.

RTFM docs.sun.com or sunsolve.sun.com:
When the system starts, wait for the yellow light to blink for about 3
seconds.  This will happen aprox. 2-5 minutes after poweron.
Press the poweron button twice rapidly when the yellow light blinks.
This will force the system OBP to set the console to the serial port A.
You can access the console with a terminal concentrator (e.g. MicroAnnex) or
any other computer via a null modem cable.
