Sun Solaris sending files via NDMHello, all-
To preface, I would like to apologize for sounding like an idiot with
no knowledge. In this case, I am just that... an idiot with no
knowledge. I am not typically in charge of the kind of things I am
trying to accomplish here.
We are considering converting an IBM OS/390 system to a Sun Solaris
platform. I've been getting various pieces of information gathered to
determine how doable this is.
Our current system (IBM mainframe) sends two files nightly to our
client via NJE. This is a serial token ring connection, so we have a
3745 between them and us. We have TCP/IP capab...
Stop it Stop it Stop itAll this talk about Oblivion, and here I am, sitting on my hands, waiting
for bastardbuy to ship me a freakin'
out-of-stock-don't-know-when-more-will-arrive Xbox 360 and Oblivion. I have
a good mind to download Oblivion from a torrent and play it on my computer.
You're all so insensitive to my pain, so I'm going to have to filter
Oblivion posts for now.

Solaris/UNIX lessons via e-mailHi,
I am looking for someone that can give me a hand with a variety of initial
Solaris/general UNIX questions. I am trying to gear up for a software
development project.
I am willing to pay someone a bit (mind you I am starting a new project andI
need to catch up on bills, etc) to answer a handful of questions via e-mail.
If you are interested, please let me know.

sending data to browser via servlet: windows vs. unix I wrote a small servlet for a web application to send pdf files
(and other types of files) from a local filesystem to a user's web
browser. When I run the application locally (my workstation runs
Windows), everything works fine. When I deploy to the testing server
(which runs UNIX), the data does not get transmitted properly. Trying
to get a PDF file causes Acrobat to return an error of "The root
object is missing or invalid". Trying to retrieve a Word file via the
servlet causes Word to try to convert from some unidentified encoding
(which fails and results in garbage on the...
Sandisk Sansa "Clip" mp3-player: can load-up via unix/solaris?I've purchased an mp3-player (named "The Clip"). Tech support
says the only way I can upload music, etc to it is via
windows media-player 10 or 11. Period.
My (obvious) question is -- can I do that on a unix
machine (mine is Blade100 with Solaris-9)?
And if so, then via what choice of software?
Thanks!
David

receive mail via 1 personality, send via anotherI know Eudora has a way to do this, but can't remember how. (OE is
actually better at it than Eudora!)
My e-mail service requires that I use different login IDs for sending
and receiving. I have two personalities set up for this purpose. The
problem is that if I respond to an e-mail, Eudora tries to send via the
incoming personality. How do I reply & forward using the sending
personality without manually changing it?
Thanks,
Gary

One distributor is re-sending transactions another stops sending altogether.I'm running SQL Server 2000 SP2 transactional replication.
Periodically replication fails due to primary key errors. On
investigation I find that the offending transaction is attempting to
insert a duplicate of a recently replicated row (identical data
including the rowtimestamp, which is automatically generated in the
publishing database). My conclusion is that the distributor is
sending the same transaction twice. There is usually a large block of
transactions that are duplicates. Replication has been removed and
reinstalled with no change. Any suggestions on what might be causing

Question: C2 Security Configuration for general Unix and Solaris/Trusted Solaris (Auditing)While reviewing the DoD 5200.28-STD "DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TRUSTED
COMPUTER SYSTEM EVALUATION CRITERIA" document and looking over
"Security Requirements for Automatic Data Processing (ADP)
Systems," for Federal systems requiring C2 compliance I realized
that I do not understand the distinction between Solaris and
Trusted Solaris.
On the issue of Accountability(auditing)
1. Can Unix machines using only the syslogd facility meet 'C2'
or higher?
2. Does Trusted Solaris offer any system resource advantage
(CPU and Disk utilization) over Solaris usi...
