setting nw speed to 1gb on solaris 10
I'm new to Solaris 10, and I have been unable to find out how to set the
network speed up to 1 gb...
In answer to a script I found here:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.unix.solaris/browse_thread/thread/
35414fd67adcd7ff
/817b575dcb5a7413?lnk=st&q=%22solaris%22+%22link_speed%22+1000&rnum=1&hl=
en#817b575dcb5a7413
(on this newsgroup), I got the following results:
eri0 ifspeed 100000000, link_duplex 2
If I am not mistaken, I need to run something like:
ndd -set /dev/eri link_speed 1000
operation failed: Permission denied
I'm confused, FreeBSD was easier to set the speed. Please help.

GBE pretty much mandates auto-negotiation, so assuming your switch
is set up corrcetly, you should be getting GB speeds out of the box.
You shouldn't need to configure anytning.

The default settings work out of the box on Solaris; it doesn't
get any easier than that. :-)

Thanks. I just found out that the network card doesn't support 1gb, so
that was the issue.

The link should autonegotiate to the highest speed supported by both
ends! It should not be necessary to set the speed unless something is
seriously broken somewhere.
What does it do if you restore the default settings on the Solaris end
and set the switch port to autonegotiate? What are you using for a switch?
