Solaris + Clariion = "drive type unknown" and warnings logged

  • Follow

Hi. Got a pile of Solaris 9 and 10 boxes, all connected to Clariion
disk.

Each time I run format, half of these disks report as "drive type
unknown" and a pile of disk warnings get logged to /var/adm/messages.

Think it's because the clariion is on failover mode #1, no auto
trespass, so no I/O comes through via the secondary paths.

Can go with failover mode #2, which ought to solve this, but it places
a lot more load on the Clariion, while it trespasses luns backwards
and forwards.

Has anyone been able to find an idea solution, where "format" works,
no /var/adm/messages warnings, and load on the Clariion is kept to a
minimum ?

Thanks,

Steve

Have you enabled MPxIO?

	stmsboot -e

We have got exactly the same issue, but only with Veritas DMP.

If we activate PowerPath or MPXIO everything is ok, even if we
activate PowerPath and Veritas DMP simultaniously or MPXIO and
Veritas DMP simultaniously!

So we think it's a problem with Veritas DMP. We opened a ticket by
Symantec and installed several patches but with no improvements! The last
info we got from EMC is to try failovermode 4(!) and in a quick test it worked.

Next meeting with EMC and Siemens Business Services is next week.

Im glad to hear that someone else has got the same or similiar issue because
Symantec always claimed no other customer has got the same problem!

Heinz
