Solaris and SATA

  • Follow

Hello,

I've got an SATA drive attached on my Asus K8V-SE Deluxe Mainboard,
but Solaris can't find the disk, i.e. there's no /dev/sda entry.

Chipset: VIA K8T800
Processor: Athlon 64
SATA in IDE mode

Can anyone help me?

There will never be. /dev/sd* is a Linuxism.
Try the format command (it will _not_ format your disk) and also look in
/dev/rdsk/c*t0d*

Why should there be one?

The format command will list the available drives.

If you added the drive after you installed, "touch /reconfigure; init 6"
as root to reboot and rescan for devices.

format WILL format your disk, but only if you ask it to. You can use
the format command just to look at the layout (partitions or slices) of
the disk.

It's best to have a look at the man page before trying to use it.

or without rebooting, just run devfsadm -v -c disk

But I have great problems to make some sense out of that listing. I
would like to know if this directory really contains my s-ata disk and
how to mount it. Perhaps a little hint where to find some good
documentation about this topic would be really helpful as well as a
description of what that really means (rdsk, dsk, ...).

Thank you so far.

OK, then I think it can be the motherboard RAID controller that is not
liked by Solaris. I've a K8M800 motherboard with a built in RAID
controller that I never can get i a mode so that Solaris recognizes the
disks...

Someone with more PC HW knowledge that can help Oliver (and me)???

SATA drives? Your MOBO manual lists BIOS SATA options as IDE or RAID.
If IDE doesn't work you are probalby out of luck. (You have tried IDE
mode???)

Had same issue on a Compaq - set the controller to IDE, AND put the
master/slave jumpers on the drive(s) on the chain.

Remember, IDE is NOT SATA and does NOT support drive select.....

Yes, I have tried IDE mode as well. I am now thinking of writing a

Or perhaps I'll just switch to using an IDE drive again.
