Hello,
I'm trying to install Solaris 10 on a laptop Lenovo 17305. I use a
DVD that can install without any trouble Solaris on an Acer 1700,
but after grub stage, kernel prints :
Solaris 10.......
Copyright...
an error (I cannot read it becauce system reboots).
Any idea ? I'm downloading last release of Solaris 10, but I'm not
sure that the new one will works... This laptop perfectly works with
Vista.
Regards,
JKB

Just a thought: there may be a hardware incompatibility and/or lack
of a driver. Try the Solaris 10 install_check and/or Java equivalent;
the install_check is a bootable CD (made from an ISO download). See:
<http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/install_check.jsp>
A similar Java device detection tool is here:

OK, I shall try.
I have rebooted with -kd option. Panic is :
panic[cpu0]/thread=fec1ec20: page_free...

With acpi-user-options=0x2, system boots but hangs when it tries to
detect disk... If I find a workarounf, I'll come back...

Solaris might not be compatible with your system. BTW, the
model of what you have is "Y710" (and there are 3 varieties);
"17305" cannot be found on Lenovo's web site but a Google
search matched 17305 to Y710 which can be found at Lenovo.
I took my copy of the install_check CD with me to stores when
I was looking for a system that would definitely run Solaris
10u5; most worked, some didn't, and what I ended up buying was
a desktop that only needed a 3rd-party Ethernet driver for
which install_check displayed the URL where it could be found.
OpenSolaris may work on your laptop and I believe it's also a
"Live CD".
For testing purposes, can you boot any Linux or FreeBSD Live CD?
Can you boot a Vista PE (Preinstallation Environment) CD (it's
sort of like a Linux Live CD)? FWIW, the desktop I bought now
boots into Solaris 10u5, Fedora 9, and Vista SP1 (triple-boot
using Solaris' grub).

With acpi-user-options=0x2, I have installed Solaris 10. Now, I have
another trouble with BCM5906 NIC adapter. Does someone know if this
NIC is supported ? This adapter should be supported by bge driver
(new feature), but I don't know where I can download this new bge
driver...

You can look at the Hardware Compatibility List at Sun using the URLs
I
posted previously by backing-up on the URL to get to .../hcl/, or you
can
boot the install_check CD (assuming the ACPI change now permits it to
boot.

Any strong reason for installing Solaris 10 rather than an OpenSolaris
build? Laptop support is way better in current builds than it is in S10.

Do you think that OpenSolaris supports this NIC ? I have found no
infomation about BCM5906...
