Hi ,

I have a Sun Enterprise 3500 running Solaris 5.8 .
I'm trying to get a SunOne web server process
started. The webserver must run on port 80.

I understand that ports below 1024 must be
started by a root login. However, shouldn't
I be able to start a server on this port
under my netscape id if I setuid the start script ?

Solaris won't let you use SUID on a shell script - it's a security
feature. You'll need to become root to startup the web server and bind
to port 80. Try using "su" (eg :- su root -c "./start"), or look into
"sudo".
