what is "Break Glass"??

Hello,

I keep running intot his term in relation with UNIX and specifically
Solaris, called "Break Glass". What is that supposed to mean? I've
been working with Solaris for several years, even use it at home, and
even after doing several dozen web searches I cannot find a good
meaning for what this is. Is it a 3rd party product of some sort?

Thanks,

Tom

". We preach three things here at Sun. One is velocity, the second is
simplicity and the third is break glass, or break the business. "

"At the height of success is when we break the business. And companies that
don't understand that usually have messed up and are laying people off,
restructuring their companies, or coming up with new strategies. We prefer
to reorganize, to change the rules at the height of success, and those
companies that can do that are going to win long-term in the marketplace.
So we try to get these Sun Teams to improve velocity, improve simplicity and

change the rules or change the way we do things--to figure out ways we can
improve the efficiency of the company. "

Not sure if that is it. I originally thought that it might be some
weird way of saying breaking a mirrored disk/volume, but I don't think
that that is it either. If you do a simple Google Groups search on
"break glass" you will see a specific ad on it. I may contact those
people directly asking them what they meant since no one else seems to
really know. I felt pretty dumb not knowing but now I don't feel so
bad.

Thanks.
