Xerox Phaser 4500 and Duplex Printing on Solaris 10

  • Follow

Dear all,
we have installed a Xerox printer on a system running Solaris 10 10/08
using this command:

#lpadmin -p xerox_p -s localhost -v socket://IP -m uri -A write -n /
usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system
/foomatic/Xerox/xr_p4500.ppd -o banner=always -I postscript -u
allow:all

The printer is running very well except for printing duplex pages by
the lp command.
I tried to print with -o DuplexNoTumble or with -o sides=two-sided-
long-edge but without
success.

Does anybody know the correct option -o ???? to do duplex printing and/
or does one have
to modify the xr_p4500.ppd file?

THX, Rainer

Welcome to the nightmare that is Unix printing! I have a Solaris 9 or
10 box that actually asked me to pick my printer manufacturer from a
list and then had me select the model. It worked and is still working.
I suppose I'm lucky that I haven't tried to change anything!

It may be easier to move the file to a PC in order to print it!

-o Duplex=DuplexNoTumble

There's a lp invocation which will spew the PPD's supported options
but I can't remember it.

Try

#lpstat -p xerox -l 2

Unfortunately this does NOT work.

OK, I'm not an expert, but doesn't this mean it's turned off as a
feature or option?

I would try finding where this is set (ppd?), the set them both to "True"

Try using one of the other bundled PPDs:
/usr/share/ppd/SUNWfoomatic/Xerox/Xerox-Phaser_4500N-Postscript.ppd.gz

And also try setting that option as the printer default with lpadmin.
