hi there,

i want to write documents in Microsoft Word using the  default font of
LaTEX, which is Computer Modern. I haven't been able to find and
download it in the web. I would be grateful if anybody could help me
with this.

Google for
Computer Modern font

The FIRST hit takes you to the download page for a zipped file of the 
Computer Modern fonts.

Or go directly here:
ftp://ftp.ams.org/pub/tex/psfonts/cm/
READ the README and download the .zip file.

They are all Type 1.  If you're using Windows 9x/ME you'll need the free 
Adobe Type Manager.  If you're using Windows 2K/XP it can use them directly.

I don't think this will work. These fonts have the TeX encoding, which
isn't known to Word. A better solution is Richard Kinch's "um" fonts, 
available free at

www.truetex.com

Note that these are text only, not math/symbol fonts.

Try the free Latin Modern fonts. Google for "lm ctan" and download
the pfm and pfb files.
